Schofield leads No. 1 Tennessee to win at South Carolina

Admiral Schofield was talking too much and missing too often. The Tennessee senior knew his game had to improve, and he started with an apology to his teammates.

"I just apologized to them for getting outside of myself," said Schofield, who had shot under 30 percent and scored nearly seven points below his average in Tennessee's past three games.

Schofield rediscovered his game Tuesday night, scoring 20 of his 24 points in the second half to lead No. 1 Tennessee to a 92-70 win over South Carolina.

Washington scores 26 as No. 7 Kentucky routs Vandy 87-52

Kentucky coach John Calipari insisted he worked harder in the second half, even though his Wildcats led by 30 at halftime and P.J. Washington already had a double-double.

As good as Washington and the Wildcats look now, Calipari believes much more is possible this season if they keep improving.

Washington finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds as seventh-ranked Kentucky routed Vanderbilt 87-52 Tuesday night for the Wildcats' seventh straight victory.

Waters scores 36 to lead No. 19 LSU over Texas A&M, 72-57

LSU coaches and players had been encouraging Tremont Waters to stop being hesitant and take more open 3-pointers in the days leading up to Wednesday's game against Texas A&M.

Waters took their advice to heart and it led to a huge night.

The sophomore scored a season-high 36 points and made a career-best six 3s in carrying No. 19 LSU to its 10th straight victory, 72-57 over the struggling Aggies.

No. 1 Tennessee gets 16th straight win, 93-76 against A&M

Top-ranked Tennessee didn't take much time to celebrate breaking a 100-year old school record.

This team has much bigger goals.

Grant Williams scored 22 points to help the Volunteers beat Texas A&M 93-76 on Saturday night and with their 16th straight game, setting a new school mark.

No. 7 Kentucky tightens D, rallies to beat Florida 65-54

PJ Washington didn't have to say anything to his Kentucky teammates.

They all knew the situation: trailing by 11 points on the road with 13 minutes to play. They all knew what had to happen: lock down on defense or lose for the first time in a month.

Washington simply set the tone for everyone else to follow.

Washington finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Tyler Herroknocked down a dagger 3-pointer with about 3 minutes remaining, and the No. 7 Wildcats rallied to beat Florida 65-54 on Saturday.

Weatherspoon, No. 22 Mississippi St get past Ole Miss 81-75

A handful of Mississippi's players were surrounding the basket during the second half when Mississippi State's Reggie Perryslid between them unnoticed, grabbing another offensive rebound before making a layup.

A few minutes later, Perry was at it again, finding an open spot behind the 3-point line and hitting the jumper that would give the 22nd-ranked Bulldogs the lead for good in an 81-75 victory over rival Ole Miss on Saturday.

Jones' late basket lefts Arkansas over No. 19 LSU, 90-89

Arkansas coach Mike Anderson couldn't help but rave about his team's poise, even though the Razorbacks had blown an 18-point lead during the final 13 minutes.

Mason Jones hit a driving floater off the glass with 22 seconds left and Arkansas beat No. 19 LSU 90-89 on Saturday night to hand the Tigers their first conference loss this season and first home loss in more than a year.

No. 1 Tennessee beats Missouri 72-60 for 17th straight win

Tennessee has matched the longest winning streak of Rick Barnes' 32-year head coaching career.

Admiral Schofield and Grant Williams scored 13 points each as the top-ranked Volunteers defeated Missouri 72-60 on Tuesday night to earn their 17th straight victory, extending a school record. Barnes' only other 17-game winning streak came in 2009-10 at Texas.

No. 1 Tennessee beats Florida 73-61 for 18th straight win

Tennessee's players resisted the temptation of staging a repeat performance of a postgame "Gator chomp" after their latest victory over Florida.

The sellout crowd at Thompson-Boling Arena did it instead.

Grant Williams scored 16 points as the top-ranked Volunteers defeated Florida 73-61 on Saturday to extend their school-record winning streak to 18 games.

No. 5 Kentucky escapes with 71-67 win over Mississippi St

Kentucky coach John Calipari said he took a few moments following Saturday's game to praise his team for winning its 10th straight game thanks to some gritty plays in a difficult road environment.

Then the compliments ended. It was time for the truth.

"If you want me to tell you everything's all good, it isn't," Calipari said. "I went right down to each guy. Not mean, screaming or cussing. I wasn't.

"But you're here because you want me to keep it real. Well, this is real."

And the truth is that No. 5 Kentucky was fortunate to escape Humphrey Coliseum with a 71-67 victory over Mississippi State. The Wildcats let an 18-point lead early in the second half dwindle to just one possession with 1:18 remaining before a defensive stop in the final seconds sealed the win.

Kavell Bigby-Williams' tip-in gives LSU first win over Kentucky since 2009

A tip-in at the buzzer by Kavell Bigby-Williamshelped No. 19 LSU finish off its biggest comeback of the season and finally beat Kentucky.

The Tigers have won six games on the road this season after Tuesday night's 73-71 victory over the No. 5 Wildcats. They've survived several close calls: LSU has won three overtime games in the Southeastern Conference, and the past three games have been decided by less than five points.

No. 1 Vols beat South Carolina 85-73 for 19th straight win

South Carolina couldn't miss from 3-point range and still couldn't put up much of a challenge against No. 1 Tennessee.

Admiral Schofield had 21 points and 10 rebounds as the top-ranked Volunteers defeated South Carolina 85-73 on Wednesday for their school-record 19th consecutive victory. South Carolina (12-12, 7-4 SEC) made a season-high 14 3-point baskets and shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc, but still trailed by double digits throughout the last 28 1/2 minutes.

No. 5 Kentucky ends No. 1 Tennessee's 19-game winning streak

No. 5 Kentucky got the strong start it sought against No. 1 Tennessee and for a moment was blowing out the Volunteers.

Most important was that the Wildcats finished off the Vols on a national stage, just what they needed days after letting one slip away.

PJ Washington scored 23 points, Keldon Johnson added 19 and Kentucky upset Tennessee 86-69 on Saturday night to end the Volunteers' school-record, 19-game winning streak.

Waters, Smart lead No. 19 LSU over Georgia, 83-79

Ja'vonte Smart was a little too emotional after hitting a 3-pointer for LSU midway through the second half.

He yelled out to celebrate and was whistled for a technical foul, helping Georgia take a three-point lead. Smart gathered himself, though, and hit another 3 two possessions later, and the Tigers didn't trail again.

"I was just playing with the flow of the game, trying to bring energy on (defense)," Smart said. "Once we got stops, I wanted to put the ball in the hole and doing whatever I could to help us win."

Tremont Waters scored 20 points, Smart added 19 and No. 19 LSU won its fourth straight game, holding on for an 83-79 victory Saturday night.
