<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NBA teams, take note. The surprise at ATTACK Athletics on Monday was former Bulls point guard Jay Williams. He held his own against two of the fastest guys in the draft, Raymond Felton and Dee Brown. His shot is better than ever. He's cutting and jumping. He went full steam for an entire hour with Felton and Brown and looked just fine. Williams said after the workout that everything is coming back to him and he's hoping to be in an NBA training camp this fall. Grover concurred, asserting that if things go according to schedule, Williams will be ready to play next season. That's amazing progress for a guy who's been playing basketball full-time for only six weeks. "Right now it's more mental that physical," Williams said. "I'm still not secure in myself. The doctors have cleared me to play. Now it's about getting back the confidence I need to be a great player. When I think about it, I sometimes doubt. However, when I'm going one-on-one with Dee Brown, my basketball instincts kick in and I play just fine." "I don't want to come back and be an average player. I know some people think that it would still be great if I did that. I know I could do that right now. But that's not what I'm trying to do. I want to be an All-Star and play at an All-Star level." Williams said he has a handshake deal with the Bulls to give them the right of first refusal after seeing him work out. He doesn't think it's likely that they'll sign him, however, with Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon thriving in Chicago. If Chicago is not an option, he's hoping to land with a veteran team with title aspirations, such as the Spurs, Pacers or Timberwolves. It remains to be seen whether he'll ever get back to his old self. But he's on the right path. </div> This is from Chad Ford's blog. First of all, I'd love to see this kid come back no matter what team it's with. He's a good kid who made a dumb mistake and I think he's more than paid his dues. Plus, it'd just be a good story to hear that he's back to the playing level he was at before his accident. All that being said...wouldn't he look terrific as the Warriors back up pg? If he's fully recovered and playing like his former self, he's definitely a starter in this league, but I don't think any team is going to depend on him to be their starter. If I had to put money on it though, I'd say he'll end up in Minnesota. He'd be a great fit up there and if he wants to go to a veteran team with title asperations, the T-Wolves are certainly a more fitting team than the Warriors. But still...
I would love to get him. It would be like sweet redemption for leaving us with Dunleavy instead of Williams or Yao...
Maybe Dunleavy could make up for it some by being the guy to at least get us within contention for Jay Williams' services to be our temporary backup guard (until he's fully conditioned to start for some other team). I mean Dun and Jay Williams were the top players in the 2002 Duke NCAA Championship. If Dunleavy says, "Okay Jay, come on over, there's no pressure to push yourself, I'll make you better, you'll make me better, and you'll be on a winning team that needs your abilities, and he'll have some chances to actually start if Baron Davis is having all sorts of back/heel/ankle injury problems again." ...But, he'll probably go where he is desperately needed which is Minny, Cleveland, Utah (saddles up with Carlos Boozer), Hawks, or Hornets. Even the Lakers would probably die for his skills, even though he is more of a shooting guard than he is a pure point. I like Jayson.
as a college PG,Jay was a notch above this years big 3,and the combination of playmaker and very quick scoring threat was why. A PG who can't or won't feed is bad,but Aaron Myles is not a rd 1 prospect because he doesn't shoot/score enough,Mateen Cleves and Jaque Vaughn are journeymen for the same reason. An NBA point needs to balance his act. The question of course,is how much of his ability does he have back? Likely he's going where he can compete for a starter role soon....so the W's likely won't be his next stop.
Since we have Davis, Fisher, Richardson, Pietrus as our guards, I don't think chance of him coming here is high to say the least...
i like his odds, fisher can't run a fastbreak offense and davis has injury problems, and him and dundun are buds so having him seems very possible, and the contract they sign him to should definatly be reasonable...think of it as an alonzo risk, either it will be lioke were nj(w/ a lot less of a cap hit) or miami...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Map1986:</div><div class="quote_post">as i understand it jay is in heavy "unofficial" talks w/ miami...</div> Dammit. I want him so bad. The Heat would kick ass with him though whcih would suck
