Tyronn Lue & Donyell Marshall or Others? The lakers pursued Toronto Raptor forward Donyell Marshall last summer and might make another run at him. Marshall, who tied an NBA record with 12 three-pointers in a game last March, can score from the outside, rebound and block shots. An unrestricted free agent, he made $5.3 million last season. Another possibility is veteran shot-blocker Theo Ratliff, who may be waived by the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the amnesty provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. (Teams that pay the luxury tax have a one-time opportunity to release a player. Such teams would still have to pay the player's salary, but he could earn a second salary with another team.) Free agent Antonio Daniels of the Seattle SuperSonics is a selfless, stay-within-the-system player who has been part of winning teams in San Antonio and Seattle. Oft-injured Allan Houston is expected to be released by the New York Knicks as part of the amnesty provision, and Doug Christie might be released by the Orlando Magic, providing possible options who might accept less money because they'd be drawing salaries from two sources. Finally, the Lakers are interested in a change-of-pace guard after failing to land Nate Robinson in the second round of Tuesday's draft. Jackson has a tremendous comfort level with players he has coached, making former Laker Tyronn Lue, most recently with the Atlanta Hawks, a possible fit for a reunion. source: http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/n...orts-nba-lakers i think if we can get 2 or 3 of these players on our team in the off-season, then that'll be great. just don't take allan houston.
I'd be content with Lue back with the team for the LLE. He knows the Triangle already, and plays heads up defense. He learned to shoot better when he played for the Hawks and has more experience running the point. The player I want is Marko Jaric though, and hopefully the Clippers do not match any offer we give him, or are willing to work out a sign and trade. Donyell Marshall would be great, but the Lakers cannot afford him. Theo Ratliff will get a lot of offers if the Blazers cut him, I could see him going to a contender though. Spurs, Pistons, or Suns.
I don't think Marshall is an option, I'd love to have him, but like Shape said...we simply can't afford him. I liked Tyronn Lue when he was with us, and then Washington. I think he is a very servicable PG, and honestly, I think he could win that starting spot from Chucky because of his defense. Theo Ratliff will get a lot of offers from championship contenders --the Spurs, the Pistons, the Mavericks, and the Suns, I don't think he'd pick L.A., currently in a rebuilding process, over those teams.
Marshall would definately benefit us. If we get him, it will be awesome. What about Bobby Simmons? He had an incredible year with the Clippers. Could we pursue a guy like that? Im not sure who the Clippers would want in return but I think he is a viable option. What about PG's Brevin Knight or Earl Watson?
The person the Lakers should look into targeting as there main off season priority would be Antonio Daniels he is probably the most underrated point guard in the free agency market this year he was a huge part of helping the Seattle Super Sonics make the playoff run this year. He is a proven winner having already won a title with the San Antonio Spurs, and would provide the Lakers with a great free throw shooter, and solid ball handler who can put points up. I do not think there will be as much competition for him as there will be for players such as Donyell Marshall and other high profile free agents. Was there not a rumor going around these boards a while ago that the Lakers were interested in Rose to play along side Kobe and be a big guard to use in the triangle. A recent rumor says the Raptors are planning on releasing Rose due to the new collective bargaining agreement, which would not count his contract towards the team luxury tax, and reportable he is willing to sign with a team for the MLE. I do not see the point in bringing in Tyrone Lue to the Lakers franchise once again. Although, he can guard some smaller quicker guards he can not provide the team with that great an option at point guard. If they were targeting him they would be better off keeping Chucky Atkins who could at least provide more of an offensive threat for the team. The thought of them getting Theo Ratliff really impresses me he is still a great shot blocker at this point in his career he has not fallen off greatly since the season he played for the 76ers before getting traded to the Hawks. Bringing in players like Allan Houston or other players who have baggage would only work if it were for the veteran minimum. On the real though the Lakers have many options on what they can do to improve their team this off-season. I think if some how they could target a player like Shareef Abdual Raheem from the Portland Trail Blazers, and sign him for MLE that would provide them with a incredible front court Lamar Odom, Shareef, and Bynum with Caron Butler off the bench deep team. I know this is a long shot due to all the teams that will be targeting him, but really unless there is a team willing to work a sign and trade with Portland most franchises with a possibility of being in the playoffs are over the cap. Unless he is willing to go to Hawks I do not see him getting a big pay day this off-season. I think that if they just acquired Rose though he does not play defense well. He would provide the Lakers lineup with versatility due to his size he would not be a pure point guard, but along with Kobe in the backcourt their size would overwhelm there opponents in many matchups.
