<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Scott Layden, who helped turn the Jazz from small-market laughingstock to title contender by drafting John Stockton and Karl Malone, may be returning to Utah.
Layden, out of the NBA since being fired as president of the Knicks 18 months ago, is the leading candidate for an assistant coaching job with the team he once directed, The Tribune has learned.
Layden is out of the country on a family vacation and could not be reached. Coach Jerry Sloan would not comment on who he intends to hire to replace Gordon Chiesa for his staff, but "I'm hoping it won't take too much longer" to fill the job, he said Tuesday.
He won't need much time to get to know Layden. The pair spent six seasons together as Jazz assistant coaches under Scott's father,
head coach Frank Layden, and Layden stayed on the bench when Sloan took over as head coach in 1988. The 46-year-old Layden spent 18 years with the Jazz as an administrative assistant, scout, assistant coach, director of player personnel and vice president of basketball operations.
Layden, who selected Andrei Kirilenko in his final draft with the Jazz, left Utah in 1999 and signed a six-year, $30 million contract as president and general manager of the New York Knicks, but lasted only four and a half years before being fired. </div>

The New York fans maybe, but who do they like?

I don't see how the fans of Utah could not like the person who brought the two best players in Utah Jazz history

Wow. Good luck. You'll really need it. Try to at least keep this guy away from the front office.

LOL, Mr. J, I bet you must hate this guy, and he'll be in the Draft room and the bench, that's all he's gonna do.

I was going to say the same thing MrJ said, but Jazz fans can't really argue with the picks he made with them. In his final draft with the Jazz, he picked Kirilenko, but he did pick Lewis and Padgett in that same draft, so maybe he wasn't that great. I think maybe he will make a good assistant coach, and we know if he has any problems he could just call his dad.
