Would you match all offer sheets for Flip?

Flip is a restricted free agent and is drawing interests on the record from Denver and Washington.

Considering that AD is most likely gone, is there a better combo guard option on the market than Flip? Flip is a younger, better prospect than AD anyway and most likely will come at a cheaper price.

Consider the fact that we are losing free agents in masses, it make sense to keep the free agents that are the most inexpensive. Even if a team like Denver offers the full mid-level exception, I think that we would have to seriously look at matching the deal for Flip.

The signing of Ray for 80-85 million makes his opinion of playing with Flip irrelevant. There isn't a better combo guard available in free agency other than Flip and at this point in his career the mid level exception may be a bargain.

I used to think that Flip coming back was nearly impossible, but losing at least Nate, BGJ, AD, Vlad and Damien Wilkins makes Flip's resigning that much more of a priority.

I don't know if he'd be too happy coming back to the Seattle bench, but I doubt the Sonics care about that. Not like he'd start anywhere else. I don't really trust him at the point like I trusted AD, but he's definitely got great value for his age and abilities.

Shiek I agreed with a lot of what you said except when you mentioned matching the full mid level exception. Maybe match something around 2-2.5 million a year but much more then that I dont think its a good idea. Also I dont understand your point about Ray Allen not wanting to play with him. The fact is when they were the 2 guards on the court we didnt produce well...thats a problem.

Overall though I think Flip may be a more reliable point guard (if given proper minutes) then he showed this year. When he was playing those 1st 20-25 games without Ray Allen season before last he was playing a fair amount of point guard and handling it well.

Infact I actually intended a game where they played Denver and we were without Daniels, Barry, and Ray Allen (his last game out before returning from injury) and Flip handled the ball alot because Ridnour had right around 10 turnovers that game (not an exageration) and it was a game where we controlled it and he was a major factor for that. So in conclusion if we can keep him on a say 3 yr 6-8 million dollar contract I think its worth it...more then that and im not sure it is.

Speakin of combo guards when is Gary Paytons name gonna pop up? [IMG]

Flip is a great option to back up ray and luke, but I'd rather use FA money on matching Radman or nabbing Dale Davis. Role playing guards are easier to come by than bigs and you get more for your money. Matching a big offer for Flip is only wise if it turns into a good sign and trade.

There's no doubt he's the ready-made replacement for AD. I would not like to see us going out on the market to get a new back-up guard when we have Ronald 'Flip' Murray III already on the roster. Do the right thing, Sundo.

Keep Flip and give him his 20-25 minutes behind Luke and Ray.

I have absolutely no problem with matching offers for Flip and keeping him around, but if it costs the entire MLE, I would have to seriously think twice.

It just seems to me that Flip is not a combo guard - he is a shooting guard who's first, second and third thoughts are to shoot the basketball. The only real similarity he has to combo guard is the fact he's probably in between both guard spots in terms of his height. He is a purebred scorer, and I'm not entirely sure that Seattle is the best situation for him given the presence of a certain #34 if it means giving him full MLE money, or close to that mark..
