Thats good, I really like the Red Rocket but with no trades and more people that came this offseason that can play the three and four, will he get the playing time he got last year?

No, he definitely will not get as much playing time as last season, but this is still a good signing for the Raps because he is a great bench/locker room dude to have for this franchise...plus, he's already built a good fan base here in Toronto.

Maybe we can slide him at the SF position at times, or like he said at the Steve Nash Classic "Maybe coach is going to make me play some PG next season". LOL.

Good signing, $2 million / 2 years for a good shooter is a good deal. Plus it goes with the 2007 Capspace plan. Babcock showed he isn't willing to overpay a player just for the sake of keeping him on the roster; something Grunwald couldn't do.

I smell a trade coming,, because as of now we have a logjam at SF with Jalen Rose, Joey Graham, Eric Williams, Matt Bonner and Lamond Murray. Maybe, just maybe,, Rose headed to the Lakers for Divac, George, and Medvedenko and Mo Pete, Eric Williams and the Denver first round pick headed to New Orleans for Magloire and Claxton?

I don't think he talks in the locker room lol.

I expected him to get at least $2 million/year, so this is about what I expected. Bonner will help, a spot up shooter like him cna really have a nice effect on the team, though we can't say the same about his rebounding and defense.

The first scenario does not sound too good, but I guess clearing Rose will do the franchise some good for the future. The second scenario sounds more interesting and I'd love to see Magloire and Bosh team up anyday.

I'm imagining Bonner as Samuel L. Jackson in Coach Carter...you see Rafer spit at Matt and Matt's like "AWW HELL NAWWWWW!!!!" and punches Rafer.

Perfect. Sometimes Matt Bonner looks like the smartest player on the court for the Raptors, in fact, a lot of times he is. Decent rebounder with smarts on the court, he sets screens well, shoots when he needs to, and is a very efficient player. When all hope was given up last season, Bonner stood out for those reasons, along with his great jumper. Its about time this happened.

i think jalen rose is by far the smartest raptor, his selfish ways just undermine his intelligence. think about it- jalen can average 18ppg with relatively little athleticism compared to the other 2's and three's in the league. matt bonner just understands the basic premise of spacing and that when the stars get doubled he gets clean looks so he better make it. anyways, cheers to the mailman's son, hopefully its early retirement for mr and mrs. bonner with their boy hitting the jackpot and all

^ You are kidding, right? Jalen Rose and smart don't go together. The guy knows how to score, but that's about it.

If Jalen isn't the smartest one out there, could you suggest anyone else? Regarding Bonner, definitely not the smartest player out there, especially in the defensive end. The only other player I could think of who's got some all-around smarts is Chris Bosh.

Well, our team isn't full of smart players, but I guess it's between Bonner, Bosh, and a non-selfish, trying to do fancy moves when no neccesary Jalen, but he is a very crafty scorer.

WHAT!? i was going to say that Araujo was the smartest...lol... I really want to see Magloir in a Raptors uni, i really think i can and will happen. Anytime you get a superstar in the making(Bosh) and an all-star(magloir) in the SAME front court; thats wins right there. If we ever aquire Magloir and fix our backcourt problems (cough*RAFER*cough) we can reallt start winning and even contending.

Bosh. Jalen Rose only looks smart when he decides to actually move the ball and get some off-ball movements, not when he's demanding the ball in the post like he's Shaq or something.

Alvin seemed to have a bit goin' on upstairs. But as far as the active roster your probably right.

You seem to be confusing smarts, and talent together. By smarts on the court, I mean he is one of those players who understands where to be, and what to do at the right time on a consistent basis, and is overall an efficient player. Yes, Chris Bosh has some of that, no doubt, but in Bonner's case its different. For one, hes less talented, but uses his "basketball IQ" (overused term, I know) to get open and nail shots. Other ways he shows this is spacing on the offensive end, the way he balances out the court and sets screens. On the defensive end, he isn't the greatest because of his lack of athleticism, but makes up for it with his aggressiveness.

By saying this im not trying to convey that Matt Bonner is a great player, my main point is he gets the job done with whatever playing time he gets. He hustles and hits shots attributed to his excellent shot selection (never forces). He will be a great replacement for Donyell Marshall (although with less playing time bc of Villanueva).

Another thing to note, I said is the smartest player on the court "at times".

I wasn't questioning Bonner's work ethic - he is indeed, a very good player. I don't think he is the smartest. He knows how to move to open spots and when he does gets the ball, he shoots. Yes, if you're open, you will shoot and if it goes in, then you're rewarded. That is smart, but who isn't smart enough to know how to move to an open spot and when you get the ball and you're open, shoot?

Jalen isn't the smartest, but he hussles, knows where to be on defence and createst deflections and steals. He's very active and his experience from guarding Jordan pays off. However, the smartest player is definitely Bosh. It is between him and Jalen. You saw it this year...Bosh came up with a bunch of key stops and blocks and that is a mix of both raw talent and smarts. You need both to play the game of basketball. Bonner doesn't really do much, but stand in front of his guy, sometimes with his hands up in the air and usually ends up committing fouls, which most have ended up in And one situations.
