Fanball Timberwolves rookie guard Rashad McCants, already sidelined by a variety of injuries in his young NBA career, is setting lofty goals for this season. Despite taking a conservative approach with groin and ankle injuries, he claims he wants to average 10 assists this season, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Source
Okey...aren't drugs illegal? If he really said that then he's one of the dumbest rookies ever.He wants to average 10 asissts as a rookie. He even ain't a PG and neither does he have skills like John Stockton or Magic Johnson. He even ain't on the level of Andre Miller.Seems like his mother just gave him a basketball and never said anything about having to study at school.
^^ haha. 10 assists is a big ask for a rookie.. let alone a rookie bothered by such injuries. I wish him the best though, the wolves need it. So by him saying he wants to average 10 assists a game, does that mean D Casey has plans for him to be in the starting lineup??
Oh my god, what a dumb goal to bring out to the media. Like you all are saying he is not even a PG or let alone a good enough player to average 10 assists especially in his rookie year. It would be funny if he actually eclpised the goal though.
McCants is a good player but I doubt he's capable of averaging 10 assists a game, that too in his rookie season. Rashad will get some minutes at SG with Trenton Hassell being in there for the D and to start most probably, but I dont think that will translate into 10 APG. Nothin' wrong with setting goals though, good luck Rashad.
This is crazy, if McCants had the ability to average 10 dimes a game, then the T'Wolves point guard problems would be solved. We are talking about the same Rashad McCants that averaged a shade over 2 assists a game in college right? Well the T'Wolves can't say nobody warned them about his attitude, and if nobody did then they didn't do their homework. He shows the two down sides of his game in one sentence, man what is he thinking.
I don't know what the big deal is? He's getting jumped on for saying he'd like to average 10 assists and contribute unselfishly to the team?? Nothing wrong with setting the goals high for yourself, specially if it's assists, and not points or any other selfish acalades.
I'm with Purple Fever on this one. While 10 assists is a lot for a rookie, or anyone in the league, I don't think he was serious when he said that. I think tht was due to him being pumped up about playing. Nothing serious.

What an unintelligent thing to [for him] say.
setting a high goal doesn't sound like a problem to me i was expecting him to have a good rookie season and score more than 10 points a game but he has injuries already??
Weird...and also kinda funny. I never knew McCants already came down with injury. Anyway I think this is a joke, no one other than Nash averaged more than 10 assists/game. But I think he can do it if he just doesn't shoot and just passes, passes, and passes maybe 10 assists to Garnett and McCants can be Garnett's personal slave for assists...and if McCants can lead the league in turnovers, then this predication can come true...hey anything can happen.
there's nothing wrong with setting a goal like that. i have no idea why you guys are so dissing him, it's better to set a unselfish team oriented goal for 10 assists a game than a selfish 30 ppg. and it's only a goal, it's not like he actually said he's gonna do it.
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mark_jackson/index.html If mark Jackson can average 10 assists why cant mCcant
Can't quite remember if ppl was all over Lebron for saying he wanted to average a TD for the season. Anyways getting half of that at his position and how he normally plays would be pretty acceptable. Combined with KG's 5+ dimes a game does help.
There's nothing wrong with setting an unselfish goal. But it becomes a selfish goal when a) it's stated to the media even though there's no way it'll happen, it's just an attention stunt, it's said by a guy who has a storied history of shoving his foot down his throat and c) it's the wrong goal for a player to be setting for himself (McCants should be focused on D and being a good rookie by shutting up and letting KG run this team, etc)
