Too bad, you're getting a lame essay. It's not yes or no, black or white. It's a maybe. BYC1 and BYC2 and poison pill status make him virtually untradeable, but he's not untradeable. We got rid of Jamison didn't we? But he was a star player. Dunleavy is not. Get it?

Here's a link to basic rules of the CBA
    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm

FYI, pushing trades around on the 'net is not a good idea unless you absolutely understand everything that's going on. Otherwise, for the guys that do know, they'll rip into you. I don't know everything about the CBA, so I try to ask questions first from the people on this board that know best.

Sure, I will give you an answer Y or N... As soon as you can give me an answer to my question. Will global economy, terrorism, and world peace be better in next 3 years??

    Y or N ??

I also don't want some lame essay...

Seriously, if you don't want to go into the detail and doesn't care about those rules, do NOT suggest any trade scenario, because you are bound to make yourself a fool like right now.

I do not know the exact details of poison pill statues. According to Coon "If a team tries to trade an extended rookie between the date his extension is signed and the date it takes effect, his "trade value" for the receiving team is the average of the salaries in the last year of the scale contract and each year of the extension. This is called the "poison pill provision." Bottom line is that it's the nastiest barrier to trade a player, and if a team does not have a significant caproom, you can forget about trading that player due to poison pill statue. So far, no player with poison statue have ever traded, and I don't expect same from Dunleavy.

For BYC1: Basically only 50% of salary counts when BYC1 player is traded, and it also requires significant caproom for other team, especially if the contract size is big. Also, as far as I remember, nobody with BYC1 has been traded. But, with 25% difference, instead of previous 15% difference in trade, we may see that happening.

For BYC2: Only 75% of salary counts when BYC2 player is traded. Number of players with BYC2 has been traded, and with 25% difference rule, it shouldn't be too much of barrier anymore.

To make extremely simple, it would take a divine intervention to ship Dunleavy during this season, I would be extremely surprised if Dunleavy gets shipped in next season, and it would be relatively easier after 2 years. But then, with Mullin being the GM, I doubt it will happen...

Usually a 3rd team needs to be involved in BYC type deals. A team with a lot of cap space is needed to dump additional salary on them. In this case the Warriors would have to unload about $4 to $5 million in additional contracts to a third team. As you can imagine, teams with cap space won't be lining up to take on any hefty contracts.

so basically, irregardless of teams involved/dumping salary/3rd teams etc etc etc, it is entirely possible to trade dunleavy at any time within this period??

you may not personally think it is a plausible move but your own facts have proved that it can be done, why claim things are not possible when they are??

    Wow...

I am sure I am not the only one who thought of Dumb and Dumber quote.

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
    Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: Not good like one in a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one in a million.
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance?

I can really go over why it's realistically impossible, but I don't think it will help in this case. Bottom line is that you have better chance of winning a lottory then Dunleavy being shipped for next two years. And... Don't go out and buy BMW and stuff, because you have a chance to win a lottory...

How can it be realistically impossible when it is entirely possible???

i think the lame movie quote is very childish and an attempt to distract from the fact that you made a big statement and then were proved wrong

You know what? Believe whatever you like. If you believe that trading Dunlavy right now is entirely possible and teams are lined up to sacrifice their caproom to make that trade possible, be my guest. And, if you want to interpret that Shapecity actually supported your idea, that's fine with me as well. After all, it's not me who will look like an idiot at the end...

Dude, get over it. You made a bad trade idea and now you're getting ripped and you're all defensive about it.

If you want shorter amount of reading and "yes only/no only" answers try a different board. And BTW it's "regardless" not "irregardless". Don't post here again if you don't have anything competent or helpful to say otherwise there will be action.

You're trying to rip a guy that has credibility in capology. Here's what I see when I read this thread.

    1) Dunleavy's contract already is overvalued. For him to be traded before the BYC status ends (especially this season) it becomes even more overvalued.

    2) The only way you could feasibly move Dunleavy is to package all of our rookie contracts along with future picks, which I don't think I'd want to do. If you can name me 1 GM that's stupid enough to make Dunleavy's contract chew up about 13 million in cap space without stripping us of all of our young talent, I'll agree with you.

    3) Just because something is possible, doesn't mean it's feasible. You should look into feasibility theory before suggesting trades. And open your eyes and ears, you might learn something from Kwan, I know I have.

FINALLY) My grandfather taught me the greatest virtues I have before he passed away: be humble, learn from people who know more than you, and admit it when you're wrong, that way you can grow. Just my $0.02

I'd give up Foyle for Ron Artest. That's a possible trade. [IMG]

Then how about Scot Pollard for Derek Fisher?

I'm kidding btw, but it does work out CBA wise.

Here's what I think will happen. I'm probably not the first to think this, but what about Quentin Richardson? Artest wants to go to the Knicks. Q is a Knick. Artest and Q have similar contracts so therefore the numbers should work. The Warriors couldn't give up any other player that's better than Q and plus Artest would be happy on the Knicks.

We have a lot of chips and Artest wants out, I honestly think we could get him. We have Pietrus, Foyle (don't laugh at me yet), Fisher, TE.

-Pietrus-If the kid gets minutes he will produce. Off the bench he can score 20 on any given night. Draws comparison to Artest all the time. Has another 1 & 3/4 years on his contract. On rookie scale.

-Foyle-I'll just skip what I think about him but they do need some depth at the center position. He's gotten a reputation around the league for his shot blocking and put up some good performances against Indy so who knows.

-Fisher-great backup player. He can't drive and isn't a point guard but I wouldn't deal him until Montay is ready. Great spot up shooter and with Tinsley not playing so well and that European guy still transitioning, Indiana would get consistency. I would hesitate to trade him for another reason, he is a really good guy and with Artest coming here, Fisher's down to earth attitude would help out. I don't know too many Artest's around the league so I say f it and get him.

-TE-we'd have to do 2 seperate deals but this gives Indy some time to trade for someone who wants out.

-Draft picks-We have to throw in something here.

In normal circumstances Indiana would demand someone like JRich but after Artest's meltdown last year and the fact he's asking to be traded, there is no way Indiana could ask for equal value.

    GET IT DONE MULLIN!!!!

Paraphrasing from the insider article... (Don't want to break any rules)

He states that with Artest, the playoffs would be a lock for the Warriors, but Mullin would have to be willing to part with "a key reserve, Derek Fisher ($5.4 million), who's shooting nearly 50 percent from 3-point range?""

He gave a plausibility grade of 2 out of 5. I think if you consider some of the other pieces it makes sense. Honestly, Dunleavy signed too large of a contract. I said that there'll be a time around the trade deadline that the Dunleavy trade would come to haunt us, I think this is it. Even if he wasn't included in this trade, he could've been signed for much less as a top 6th man and we could clear cap room by moving Fisher. It would've been a perfect scenario. (Can you hear me crying over spilled milk?)

I've read some of the consesus around most message boards:

Pacer fans: expecting equal value back. Camby, Pierce, Vince Carter etc. No way that happens.

Realistically the better deals that could be out there on the table are Magette from the clips(Dunleavy doesn't like him), Peja, or Antoine Walker from the heat.

If those deals fall through, it's on. Artest is there for the taking, it depends on who gets there first.

Dunleavy signing was a doomed one from the beginning. We can't trade either Davis or Richardson from the day one, and we can't trade Murphy or Foyle for another small guys either. So, in order to improve the club, either Dunleavy or Fisher's big salary should have been removed. But, because of early signing, we can't move Dunleavy for at least next two to three years, and that leaves Fisher as the only big contract for a trade. In other word, we are really showing severely limited flexibility. Only if Mullin got over Dunleavy obsession... sigh...

Well, for Artest, Fisher and Pietrus package doesn't sound too bad, but because of potential danger, I do not want to part more than that. I am 99% certain that we will eventually get burnt by Artest and his personality, and Artest and Davis are really different individuals, so I seriously doubt that Artest will become a hero in his new environment. Is short term gain enough for potential disaster?
