<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Carmelo Anthony signed a 5-year, $80 million contract with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, one that allows him to opt out after four years of that deal.

The deal Anthony signed is longer by two years than those agreed to Wednesday by fellow young stars LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dwyane Wade of the NBA champion Miami Heat.

Rather than choose the five-year extensions they were eligible for that would kick in starting with the 2007-08 season, James and Wade went for three-year deals with an option for a fourth -- and the chance to become free agents sooner and potentially make even more money.

As the Nuggets solidified the future of their star forward, they lost swingman Greg Buckner to the Dallas Mavericks and 7-foot center Francisco Elson signed an offer sheet with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nuggets still have a chance to match the offer to Elson.

He made the smart move here. Melo isn't one of those players who will make the $150 million. LBJ and Wade are probably the only ones who will make that big time money, so it's very smart of Melo to take that 80 mil.

Maybe not $150 million but close to that. Melo is a great player, not far off from Wade and Lebron. You can't forget that Melo is also very clutch.

Did you even read the story about that incident?

I know he wasn't involved with the latest fiasco, but he's gonna run out of luck someday unless he gets his act together.

Why does he need to get his act together when he didn't do anything?

Isn't this like the 3rd or 4th time he's been linked with drugs since he came into the league? He's gotta make smart decisions in choosing the type of company he's involved with.

[IMG]Are you kidding me? He can't hang out with his friends. Do you understand what it's like to grow up in the hood? I have never lived in the hood, but you've got to understand, most hoods are riddled with drugs. Friendships in the hood are tight, you're almost like family. You can relate to someone so much the way your brought up. Just because he has pothead friends doesn't say anything about Carmelo. Why do you hate him so much?

so what if he smokes pot? im willing to be there is a pretty significant amount of nba players who puff weed from time to time. its no big deal, and no worse for you then going out and drinking till you're completely drunk...which im sure nobody is ragging on nba players for doing

either way...the comment was kinda off key imo

Good signing for Carmelo and the Nuggets. He's done a lot to change himself this past season and with progression like this, he'll lead the Nuggets far in the future.

I also dont think Melo is a player that'll get that 150 million contract. IMO only Bosh, Lebron and Wade would be offered that. Carmelo though could have a chance if he continues to improve

he's making as much as LeBron and Dwayne???? That's getting a bit overpaid I think. He's a very nice player, but not a top 5 player, but he's getting paid like one. The Denver GM likes to spend that is for sure, like when he gave KMart a $88m contract....

That's only because LeBron and Wade took the 3 year deals with a 4th year option.
