Although I don't have a serious case, I do get a lesions every couple of weeks so I was wonderin if there's anything out there that any one reccomends to keep it in check.

I wont go to the derm if he's gonna perscripe some next antibiotic pills or something but if anyone here deals (or has dealt) with it, are there any remeidies you suggest?

Also, is it true that proper diet and training (basically, eating healthy/right and getting yourself in shape) will have an affect on your face as well?

Just tryin to throw some new topics up in this forum [IMG]

Easy to get rid of. When I was a teenager I ate out at places like McDonald's, Burger King, etc. If you do that I suggest to quit because it's not good for you in the long run either. Cutting that out, drinking plenty of water, and some moderate exercise will rid of your acne problems pretty quickly and get you in great shape as well with little work.

May read as a bit sick but also what can help is to use a colon cleanse. I recommend using a simple one like Yerba Prima, which are just pills you take and they're natural and cheap. You can get them at a Vitamin Shoppe or probably GNC. I lost around 75 pounds way back using that. Using this while trying to quit the fast food places also helps because this product makes you lose the taste for those types of bad foods.

You can still eat great tasting foods that you may think are bad for you but if you cook them yourself and do it right they aren't at all. I have some great recip?s if you want to give them a shot. I have chicken, beef, and pizza bread all the time and yet I have no problems with weight gain or acne. Unless I forget to wash up before bed then I would get acne, but that's a given because of the dirt our skin collects during the day. Shower twice a day if you need to, that can also be a good addition.

Just to add in another thing, if you're going to drink sodas don't drink diet ones. Let me explain it. Drinking regular soda is bad enough because of a little addition called high fructose corn syrup. You have any idea what this does to your body? It cuts off your brain's ability to pick up whether you're full or not when eating. This is why people gain so much weight when they drink all those sodas going to the shops. Diet soda is still worse though. This is because the artificial sweetener in diet sodas cause addiction and an internal bloat that once it reaches a high issue it can't be rid of. In other words, you actually gain weight from drinking diet sodas. Believe me I studied it in college and it's not pretty to know the full details.

Got a bit off topic there but this is good advice for those that care to know about it.

The key to not getting acne is prevention. Diet has very little to do with getting acne, you could eat McDonalds every day and not get acne. It's more about skin type, everyones skin is different, and some people have more sensitive skin than others. I myself get pimples or 'acne' if you will around my chin area, but apart from that, only a pimple or 2 else where on my face.

The key to not getting acne is prevention. You should buy a specilized face wash, preferbally somthing with some sort of cleanser in it, this helps clean out your pores, hence reducing the risk, as ance or pimples usually occur when you get dirt into your pores and it reacts accordingly.

I've had this problem for about 5 years now, I've tried alot of stuff, most of it is garbage, but there are 2 things I've found to help. I went to the doctor, and he put me on antibiotics, this cleared up my face in about a week, how ever after about a year, the antibiotics started losing effect, and the acne was returning.

ProActive is the thing I would recomend. You may have seen the ads on TV, you probally think its a load of crap too, well the stuff does actually work, as like I said above, it focuses more on the prevention of acne rather than treatment of it. It costs a fair bit, it cost me $90 (AUD) for 4 pieces of product (a face wash, liquid cleanser, prevention cream and daily oil control), but its worth it.

There is another company that also specialize more in the prevention rather than treatment, I'm not sure if you have it in the U.S, but its called 'Young Solution', its alot cheaper and you can get it from a Supermarket or Drug Store (Pharmacy etc.) unlike ProActive.

It can also be caused by stress, which I think is the main reason I get acne or pimples, so you may want to look at getting a natural stress reliever, such as 'St. Johns Wart' tablets, which you should be able to get at a Supermarket, Drug Store or Nutrition Shop etc.

Just make sure you keep your hands clean, always have a shower or wash your face/hands after you play sport, that will help in prevention also.

    Hope that helps.

Besides the fact that I try to stay away from certain foods like chocolate, I clean my face with hyrdogen peroxide. I don't remember but I think one of my friends had suggested it. Unlike ProActive and other famous cleaners, it actually works for me and I have barely any acne left.

Try to stay away from fast food and chocolate. Also, I can't reccomend anything specific, but i buy three things: 1) Soap (for the face): there's a special facial soap that a couple of companies make that cleans your face and prevents acne. DONT USE REGULAR SOAP, IT RUINS YOUR FACE.
    2) cream to use in the evenings, which helps kill acne you already have
    3) something like oxy in the morning that dries the acne

i've used those three things for a while, and it's worked really well.

Hyrdogen peroxide can backfire on you though, if you use too much, it will dry our your skin like theres no tomorrow. I suggest if you're going to use any sort of product, wether it be a soap, or hyrdogen peroxide or benzyl peroxide, buy an oil free moisturiser, when cleaning your face, you're whiping away the oils and stuff that keep your skin hydrated, so its best to use this you rehydrate your skin after washing it, since its oil free, you dont have to worry about it doing anything else rather than what its supposed to.

Keep in mind though, in most cases stuff like peroxide etc. will iriate the acne more than help it, it will usually leave you looking more red than if you were to just leave it alone.

Just remember diet has NOTHING to do with acne, its been scientifically proven to have little, if any affect on acne or pimples what so ever.

You can eat McDonald's every day? Man you don't know much about health do you? You can try specialized face washes only 70% of them cause the problems to worsen. For those that do work then it depends on your skin type and sensativity. Many of the creams cause break outs of other problems. Most acne is caused allergie or what type of food we take in. Try reading about it here for starters - http://www.wikipedia.org. Then read the study on skin and health care by Dr. Gregory Pasuvier. You can get this in a good college and it is open for sale to the public not just students. I do however agree and if stressed then St. John's is a very good product to use.

You know what's honestly working for me.... washing my face a lot less. That's right, do the EXACT opposite of what all the facial cleansing companies want us to do.

I was having skin problems (dry facial skin) earlier this year and after some research, the recommended method of treatment was to wash your face less. I used to wash my face twice a day, but now I only do it once a day or once every two days. Whenever I feel like freshening up during the day, I'll only splash some cold water on my face. So far, not only does my skin have a lot more moisture but I've been getting a lot less pimples too.

The reason why this would theoretically work for acne is simple. When you wash your face with soap or cleansers, you remove all the natural oils, and then when the body realizes there's a shortage of natural facial oil, it starts to produce an excess amount of oil to compensate. And as we all know, more oil leads to more acne.

So the bottom line is that our bodies react in negative ways when its put through the rigors of constant commercial cleansing. You'd want to, as much as possible, eliminate the use of commercial products such as these to let the body work in a more natural state.

This method works for me, but you all may have different experiences with it. But if you're having problems with pimples, then I suggest to try it out.... it'll save you a ton of money in the long run (especially if you're planning on using proactive solution).

I clearly said "you could eat McDonalds every day and not get acne", you shouldnt take everything so literally. I have been told by my doctor, and read numerous medical studies on acne that have confirmed diet has little to no affect on causing acne what so ever. I'm just telling you what I've been told.

However in saying that, I personally am still very conscious of what I eat, not only because I like to keep healthy, but because I have noticed that after eating foods like Chocolate, I seem to get 'increased acne activity'.

Here is somthing else you might like to try for acne, Antisceptic Cream. I've started using this over the last couple of weeks, and I've found it works well. I had a couple of big pimples appear not too long ago, then I put this cream on before I went to bed (rub in it well), and after about 2-3 days they had both cleared up. It doesnt iritate the acne, as it specializes in treating infections and things like rash, and the antisceptic properties help fight the infection of the acne. I've had no problems with it so far, it hasnt dried my face out or anything.

age is probably the biggest factor. how many 20-somethings do you see with acne versus 15-year-olds. don't worry bro you'll grow out of it

Does anybody remember that commercial with the hispanic kid and he had horrible acne? I just remembered it, while reading this thread. It must have come on a long time ago, but it was so funny.

Yeah, from what research I've done its mostly a part of puberty for some (like me since I'm a greasy italian), it can be prevented or contained during puberty but it won't go away until you're older.
