I was reading an article on another site, where they were choosing the best Raptors in franchise history to create a team. Gave me the idea to start this thread, because there isn't really anything else to talk about right now. Choose 10 players (5 starters/5 backups) and explain why you think it's the best team. Also, this only counts the player's stay in Toronto. So if you chose Hakeem Olajuwon, you get the Toronto Hakeem, not the Houston one. And if you choose VC, it wouldn't be the current one playing in NJ.

    PG:
    Alvin Williams / Damon Stoudamire

    SG:
    Doug Christie / Morris Peterson

    SF:
    Vince Carter / Tracy McGrady

    PF:
    Chris Bosh / Charles Oakley

    C:
    Antonio Davis / Marcus Camby

There were actually some tough decisions to make, the two hardest being Alvin Williams over Stoudamire and Doug Christie over Peterson. Ultimately, I felt that there was already enough scoring in the starting lineup, and I wanted a player who could defend and just set up the main guys. Christie, IMO, brings more versatility to the 2-spot than Peterson, and Mo-Pete's always shown how great a spark he can be off the bench. The VC and Chris Bosh pick were the easiest and AD, while a bit undersized, definitely had his most productive seasons with the Raps.

All in all, I really like the makeup of this team. Everybody in the starting lineup can defend (CB4 probably being the weakest) and there doesn't seem to be any liabilities on either side of the floor. What really makes this team great though, is the bench. You can completely change the look of the team with a single substitution, whether you want to bring in Camby and lockdown the paint, bring in Damon and just fly down the court, or bring in Oak for some hard-nosed basketball. Considering we've only been in the league for 12 years, this is a pretty impressive collection of talent.

Honourable Mentions: Jalen Rose, Donyell Marshall, Dell Curry, JYD, Keon Clark

    So, what are your selections?

I agree with you're lineup, except I'll put mo pete in front of Christie.

you've pretty much summed it up. No one can beat that line-up. Id maybe give Chauncy Billups an honerable mention as well.

I thought about players like Chauncey Billups, Carlos Arroyo, Charlie Villanueva, etc. But, ultimately, Toronto was (or is going to be, in CV's case) a pitstop before they truly blossomed.

Well, first, I thought that VC was more of a swingman in his best seasons with the Raps. But, more importantly, T-Mac was not good enough with the Raps to be moving people out of position. I mean, his last season was great and he was oozing potential, but he was just on the cusp of it while with us.

Do we judge on how they did as Raptors, or in their entire careers?

As Raptors. That's why McGrady isn't as valuable and Stoudamire is probably more valuable than he should be.

I wouldn't even put Billups under the honorable mention category. He didn't play very well while he was here averaging 11.3 PPG, 3.3 APG, 35% FG, 32% 3PT and he only played for us for 29 games.

Tracy McGrady showed lots of promise in his last season as a raptor and would be add length to our frontcourt and bring a shotblocking presence as well. Though, this is me thinking of the team as a unit that plays together.

That would be my lineup as well. Tracy Mcgrady in his last year came off the bench and flourished as a starter. As Butch Carter once called him, he was the "best 20 year old on the planet" and I'd put him in the lineup rather then Christie. If Christie was comin off the bench he'd be more of a threat I think. Our frontline would be extremely strong given the above lineup, not to mention a formidable backcourt.

Well I suppose if I abided by the thread rules. Id just love to imagine him right now on the Raps. I remember watching his first game as a Raptor vividly.

Just pick the Nets as one of your favorite teams and you won't miss him at all.

Camby was sweet when he wasn't injure. But I put Kevin Willis or Keon Clarke instead of him.

I know Clarke had an pretty short stay in toronto but i thought the guy was just awsome. Too bad he went bonkers and blew up his career, his wing span was nuts !! I always loved how he tried to block absolutely everything, especially when he'd jump at the 3 point shots from under the basket and have to think about not trying to goaltend.
