<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">THE JOB description is daunting: Get your teammates in the right spots in the offensive sets, keep turnovers to a minimum, avoid crucial mistakes, pressure the ball whenever possible, basically just run the show.

It's a big job, and somebody has to do it. If the 76ers' 110-88, bounce-back victory over the New Jersey Nets in their preseason finale last night is to be your guide, there is a reasonable chance that it could belong to Kevin Ollie.

He was in that role for the second time in the preseason and might have done enough to win what was generally seen as a competition with Willie Green. Ollie is more natural at the position, and has more experience; when Green finds his rhythm, he is the better scorer and better equipped to draw fouls.

"If Kevin is our starter, he's a typical point guard that can run an offense, take Allen [Iverson] off the ball," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "If, in fact, we decide to do that, it's not a bad choice. I think he gives us defensive pressure up the floor, and has the ability to settle down an offense. We'll look at that option of him being in the starting lineup."

Ollie has been with 10 teams in 10 seasons, and is in his third stretch with the Sixers. Despite that, he offers more than journeyman skills. He started a career-high 23 times for the Sixers last season, six more than in the previous three seasons combined, split among Milwaukee, Cleveland, Seattle and the Sixers. He knows what it means to be in a rotation, to be at the end of the bench, to be waived, to be traded, to play in the minor leagues.

Asked about that recently, he smiled and said, "It's made me who I am," and he said it with a sense of pride. One of his secrets is, he's ready for anything. Other than winning a championship, there isn't a scenario he hasn't seen.

"It would mean a lot [to start]," he admitted. "You work hard and try to be aggressive, but you want to win. As a starting point guard, you want to set the tempo out there. It's not etched in stone yet. I've got to come in and have a good week of practice [before the Nov. 1 season opener against Atlanta]. We'll see where we are at the start of the season."

There will be moments when Iverson or Green move to the point, situations where Andre Iguodala works as a point forward, and somewhere behind all of them is second-year man Louis Williams.

"You just don't know yet," Ollie said. "I want to do what I do with any minutes I'm given, starting or coming off the bench. It doesn't matter to me."</div>

Korver and Green did really good last night vs. NJ. Kyle had 22 points and i think shot 4 for 5 from behind the arc. His defense looked a lot better last night than it did all of last year. Green added 16 points.

So if Ollie starts, woudn't the lineup be:

    C- Dalembert
    PF- Webber
    SF- Iguodala
    SG- Iverson
    PG- Ollie

    ?

Yeah, which will mean both Korver and Carney coming off the bench. Personally, I'd rather see AI at point guard, Iggy at shooting guard, and Carney at small forward. That would just be a terrific athletic lineup

I like Ollie at the point. He brings MUCH MORE stability to the team than AI. AI a decent at PG but it's very unpredictable what's going to happen when he got the ball in his hands on every possesion. Again, Ollie brings a sense of stability and with stability comes with a idenity which is what we didn't have. But if anything, if we were going to have Ollie start they should have signed Anthony Johnson. I always loved his game and after that Playoff series he had I was all for this guy, but of course BK didn't know about him and he fell into the laps of the Mavs.

I like Ollie at point. He isn't really a threat at the position, but I think he gets the job done decently. Everyonce in a while he can hit an open jumper, he can set people up on offense, and is a decent defender.

I wish we still had Eric Snow, I was literally devestated when I found out we traded him a while ago.

I wouldn`t mind Ollie starting. The guy has great work ethic and like AF said, he can still hit that open J, defend, the basics of a good point guard.
