I hate Bonds and now he might be an Oakland A! That would be a sight to see bonds in green and gold.

I think any city with a two syllable name sounds good with the one syllable "A's"

    Oak-land A's
    Free-mont A's
San - ho - zay A's (sounds funny unless you say "athletics" because of "Jose" and A's rhyming)
Santa Clara A's (doesn't sound that great, but maybe)

Hey -- C'mon now, the Giants are throwing out ALL the stops this off-season -- sure they let Soriano and Pierre go, but I hear their #1 priority is Dave Roberts!! I mean, that's a huge PR move to get the fans excited!! Sabean wasn't lying when he said this would be a huge off season. With Roberts at the helm, it's World Series or bust!!

Well, it seems like Bonds is returning to Giants for 16 mils, 1 year. If I knew this before the offseason starts, I would think Giants are nuts. But, with this year's insane signings, it could have been worse. I mean, what's going on? This year's signings made Morris and his 9 mils per year contract like a bargain...

I don't know much about baseball but it seems like the Giants would be well off taking a few years of being terrible, clearing their cap, etc. and starting over with some good young prospects and plenty of money. Right now it seems like they have no help at all from their farm system and they don't have the money to get the big name free agents. But that is one of the huge turnoffs for me about baseball- most talent goes to the highest bidder and the highest bidders have an endless amount of money. Its disgusting that huge market teams spend that money and don't even win the damn world series most of the time.

That's why it's all about the A's and the book Moneyball. [IMG]

I swear all capalogists should read that. Kwan, have you read it yet?

Nah, not yet. Although, I did hear about the book. Maybe during this winter break...

I really do not like baseball structure, and I am baffled by this year's offseason. I don't know where those teams found those extra $, but some of signings are simply insane. It seems like a market rate for .500, 4.50 era players are 10 mils per year, if teams are lucky enough to sign them at that price that is. Then, there is a crapshoot for the championship. I mean, Cinderella story is nice once in a while, and we would like to see an evil empire falls. But, every single year, whoever gets hot during the postseason, regardless of what you did in regular season or strength of the team, wins the championship. For example, Cards were about to set a record by blowing up 11 games lead in late season, and they were ice cold before entering the postseason. But, that didn’t stop them from winning the championship. How would we feel if teams like Griz, Wiz or that type of ‘good but no business of winning championship team’ wins championship almost every year? And, while it’s always enjoyable to see NY or Boston falls, at some point, shouldn’t they be award for their investment at some point? And, it’s not like they made horrible financial decisions like Knicks. That’s why I can’t really blame what Giants are doing. After all, if spending millions of money or building the team wisely has little to do with winning a championship, and if any team gets hot during the postseason, they can win the championship, why should they spend millions for extremely overpriced 3rd starting pitcher or build a solid farm system for the future? All you need to do is build a team that may barely make to PO and hope that the team will get hot during the postseason….

Every MLB team received an additional $10M to spend based of MLB.com revenue. MLB also negotiated a lucrative TV deal this past offseason, so the revenue split gives teams more to spend. Compared to the other professional sports, MLB salaries seem ridiculous, but you have to consider every franchise is making money still.

MLB also has the longest schedule, they play twice as many games as the NBA, so in theory they should make twice as much.
