is it smart for pennington to reject a paycut after he has two injury filled seasons?...to me it looks like penn will have to get cut and the jets will have to go for cutler...it could be a career ending descision...

maybe he wants off a team that looks like its gonna suck for the next few years....if hes healthy, he will get paid well by the highest bidder, but he didnt start with arm strength to begin with, so if hes lost any of what he had, he may be done....hes not hurting for money though, he got a nice bonus when he signed that deal....

ummm idk what the Jets are gonna do now...

I whats annoying is that i figured Chad knew what was best for his team. He doesnt want out i dont think but maybe hes trying to pull a Herm. He was really close to Herm. The problem is if the Jets cut Pennington that means they are over 30 mill over the cap. WHATTT thats insane i dont really know wat we can do.

What exactly happens if we are over the cap by the deadline?

could be worse, I read that if the Redskins reduced every player on thier roster to the veteren minumum they would be $4mil over, and thats before they draft!

Then how can they not violate cap?

they cut anyone that matters....they sign younger players that qualify to make under the vet minumum, they sign older players at the minumum for $25000 signing bonuses, making them count as the rookie minimum....if this goes down the way the article described it, the over/under on wins for next season in Washington should 1/2, and im not so sure the over is the better bet....

when the broncos did it back in 2001 they gave up a 3rd round pick and 918,000 dollars...apparently owners can be suspended as well...th niners once lost all mid picks and 500 grand...

those penalties were severe becuase it was deemed that those teams purposely circumvented the cap to gain competetive advantages....in the boncos case, the owner was accused of secretly giving/selling Elway car dealerships as part of compensation for his last few years with the team....I dont think the Redskins would be subjected to the loss of the draft picks, because thier problems are based on poor cap-manangement, not on illegal payments....the bottomline is that they can get under the cap, they just have to replace vets with rookies, whos minumum salaries are lower....and if you win the Super Bowl while circumventing the cap, it still counts in the leagues eyes, or atleast it did when Denver did it....

The jets are in serious cap hell. They franchised tag johnthan abraham which will put his salary around 9-10 million. They have release Chad Pennington, and release Ty Law to maybe get close to the cap

As far as they are into cap hell, Im shocked they franchised Abraham....If I was running the Jets, Id call the Texans and see if Abraham is enough ammo to move from 4th to 1st.....then start trade talks with anyone that wanted to move up, or take whoever is the best player....

idk i'm thinking with abraham they are looking to trade him and lose his contract, but i think they want something for him because they clearly cant sign him. Thats the only reason i see them franchising him, it makes a lot of sense actually. They are gonna cut Ty Law he basically just used this year for a demonstration for other teams to sign him. Now they know hes fine and hes a probowler.

The problem with cutting Pennington (i've said this multiple times) is that they would gain cap debt. He has guarenteed bonus money in that outrageous contract of his and him not going for a pay cut didnt help the Jets out. Its a lose lose situation. They cut him they are even further into debt, if they keep him, well hes still on the team.

They are asking Martin to get a paycut, i think he will he wants to stay on the Jets and he doesnt care about money. Hes a very respectable guy and he'll help the Jets out.

When you get yourself into a salary cap fix like the Jets are in now, the best way to get out, is to jettison starters and start over....if you dont sacrifice the year and start over, you may never get out of cap hell....in making that decision, ask yourself, how competetive will the Jets be if they dont purge thier problems? they are likely to be under .500 either way, so its better to just let it go and get straightened up, than lets this linger and mess up future seasons....

Here is the biggest screw you over to the Jets. If there is no new CBA then they cant split cap hit over two seasons after july 1 by cutting player, also until they get that done there is a 30% cap on increase in base salaries into uncapped years, so they cant redo a deal as a signing bonus to keep a player.

you also cant prorate any bonuses for longer than 4 years on the current deal....what does this all mean for most free agents? it means the marquee guys will get paid, and no one else will....this is going to get done in the next 2 weeks, or we are in for some unpleasant labor war....

If i were pennington i would want to hurt the jets as much as i can... i mean they fire his coach, and then his team talks smack about him behind his back...why would he want to help people who treat him like that???

exactly he was so close to Herm i think he may feel betrayed, no doubt in my mind that if Herm were still there he'd take that paycut
