http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/SD/9251811If the Chargers don't sign him by March 3, he will be a free agent. If the Chargers don't sign him, he'll probably end up with one of these teams: Jets, Ravens, Dolphins, Lions, or Vikings. If Minnesota does pick him up, C-Pep is definatly gone!
He had pro bowl caliber stats this past season. What are they thinking? Unless his injury is more serious than we know?
I think his value is really down and the Chargers saw this. Sure he is a great QB, but he suffered a huge injury to his shoulder that might really affect his throwing abilty. He wont be able to come back untill probly pre season so he will be easier to sign or resign for the chargers. i hope they let Brees go so Rivers can finally start.

He'll probably be ready for training camp as well. Brees will hit the payday somewhere. I think if Miami gets him that might be the one player they need to contend.
An injury like that was what the Chargers looked at. They thought it out and came to two decisions, they could either resign him to a long term deal or make him the transition player. What is hard to think about is whether he can play as good or better than he has the last two years. And if he does bad, resigning him would have done nothing but hurt the Chargers. Because if they started Philip Rivers and kept Brees on the bench, you know fireworks will happen. So it would only be logical to see that Brees would leave and Rivers will finally get to play since he has been in his shadow for two years already. BTW, I do not want the Ravens to pick him up, personal reasons...
definately a mistake for the chargers and some team will get a pretty good player...but the question is really about his throwing arm right now and the surgery it will need...
Brees was not a fit in Linehan's scheme IMO. I don't know that he's ideal for Mularkey's. DB may be a step above Tommy Maddox & JP Lostman.
I would rather have Tim Couch than Brees. I have a hunch that Saban will stick w/ Gus & draft Drew Olson (UCLA), Reggie McNeal, or Whitehurst (Clemson) in the 3rd round.
First of all, the Chargers are stupid. Second of all, Drew Brees is WAYYYY better then JP Losman, Maddox, Couch, and alot of other quarterbacks. He's one of the premier QBs if you ask me. It'll be interesting to see what un-folds because I'm sure that the Chargers are going to let him become a free agent, so we'll see what happens.
the only problem is that he had a weak arm before he hurt his shoulder now his arm is going to be even weaker...
I believe the real issue here is the salary cap. Rivers still has four years on his contract. Brees is a free agent with shoulder injury. While the shoulder injury may not be severe enough to hurt Brees' game, it does give the Chargers an excuse to dump him. I think it's a real gamble considering that Rivers is totally unproven, but it looks like a gamble that the Chargers are ready to take.
He did have a torn Labrum which isn't exactly a walk in the park..and its not like brees was a gunslinger to begin with..if he loses any arm strength he could be finished. Also everything that I have read says he'll be ready for camp but they don't know when he'll be able to "fully" participate..so how ready we really don't know. With that said If I was the chargers there is no way I can just let him walk because finding talent at the QB postion is obviously not easy.
Drew Brees was a product of LT's insane abilities, put him in NYJ and hell struggleMcCardell (highly underrated) in san diego. he is/was a product of a perfect system for a shorter mobile weak armed quarterback.
Delhomme has a cannon not like Marino or Favre but above average for sure. I am not totally sold on Brees coming to Miami. I said previously, in another thread, that my hunch is Nick will keep Gus and then draft Reggie McNeal, Charlie Whitehurst, or Drew Olson.
I didn't mean Arm wise for him, probably should have specified, but many Iv'e talked to(Bucs fans) think him to be a product of Carolina's offensive system.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FLORIDA PACKER)</div><div class='quotemain'>Some could argue the same argument about Tom Brady and Jake Delhomme.</div> So your the guy? You know, the one guy left that still thinks brady is a product of the system....lol.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FLORIDA PACKER)</div><div class='quotemain'>Some could argue the same argument about Tom Brady and Jake Delhomme.</div> Is it a concidence that whoever has been the panthers #1 reciver the last two years was the best WR in the league that year. Those WRs dont have huge years for no reason. Jake is a gunslinger, sometimes its good and sometimes its bad.
I was in Buffalo for the Panthers/Bills game and it was a really good game, although I would've preferred more scoring for the first and only NFL game I've been to so far. Waited all day for a long bomb to Evans, Moulds, Reed, Colbert, Smith, Carter, SOMEONE, and not one deep ball was thrown, lol. Delhomme was really consistant though. When they needed him to make a throw, he did. Although the only touchdown came with a few seconds left in the 4th, was an awesome defensive game as two of the best defenses in the league last year battled it out. I do agree that Delhomme is a quality quarterback though, his placement is precise, and his decision making is usually smart, as he doesn't like to take many chances. But, when you have recievers that are some of the fastest in the league, you have to take some chances, and he did that with Smith this year and Muhammad the year before that. Muhammad is another under-rated player, he can make the catches, he has the moves, and pretty decent speed for an older reciever. I was disappointed to see him leave Carolina, but obviously it didn't effect them all that much. As Berman always says, "Daylight come and me want Delhomme.."
