Wow...$62 million 8 year contract for Alexander. Good for him. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2355855
Everyone has to remember that a NFL contract isn't guaranteed, his 8 year contract means he'll retire as a Seahawk.
They were never going to let him hit free agency. Well dont to him, he will probably play until he is around 35.
Well that eats up the rest of their cap, they probly have just enough to sign two small-medium free agent and their rookies
I wonder what this does for their hopes of resigning Hutchinson. If they can't sign him, I'm sure the Vikings will be quick to look at him. They are looking for elite guards.

All the transition tag means that seattle can match whatever another teams gives him.
At this time last year the Seahawks agreed to a long term deal with Walter Jones and then about one hour before free agency started they signed Matt Haslebeck to a long term deal and franchised Alexander. Then they signed Alexander to a one year deal worth about the same as the Franchine Tag with the "You will not Franchise me next year" clause. So basically it took Seattle this long to sign him because last year they took care of Jones and Haselbeck first.
