<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">By doing nothing at the NBA trading deadline Thursday, the Timberwolves actually might have done a whole lot of something to alter their team. Kevin Garnett, the Wolves' All-Star forward, made it pretty clear after the shootaround Friday morning that he was not happy with the stand-pat approach. "We made no moves. Typical," Garnett said in a raspy voice, apparently fighting a cold. Asked if he had been hoping for a trade to boost the team's playoff chances, Garnett responded: "We're trying to get better, right? It is what it is." A couple of minutes later, after some comments about Phoenix, he offered a glimpse at how "not happy" he really was. "Thank God for opt-outs," Garnett said as he wrapped up the brief interview. The 7-foot franchise player has an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2007-08 season, before the final year of his current contract. </div> Link Ouch
I dont understand how its possible that Minnesotas front office has done such a horrible job building around kevin garnett. i hope they lose him and get absolutely nothing in return.
The front office has no clue what they're doing. If they were smart they would of traded KG by now because next year, it will be viewed as his last year of his contract, similar to VC/Bibby this year whom are making alot and may opt out. Teams won't be willing to offer much this summer.
If he really does want to opt out of his contract I hope he makes it clear to the front office (important to note that McHale will probably be gone when KG is gone, if not before) so that we can at least get something in return for him. I agree that the wolves wont get a deal nearly as good as they would have a year ago but it is tough to trade away a guy who has been the franchise for 12 years. He is hugely popular in Minny, people go to the games simply because of him, and he has always maintained that he wanted to stay in sota. Perhaps both KG and the timberwolves have been too loyal to each other.
Time to fire up the potential trades. Would this be something both teams would consider? Kevin Garnett for Washington's Antwan Jamison, Andray Blatche, and Antonio Daniels. Wizards: c: Etan Thomas pf: Kevin Garnett sf: Caron Butler sg: Deshawn Stevenson pg: Gilbert Arenas Minny c: Mark Blount pf: Andray Blatche sf: Antwan Jamison / Ricky Davis sg: Ricky Davis / Trenton Hassell pg: Antonio Daniels / Randy Foye I think KG's unselfish play and rebounding could play well with the Wizards. For the twolves, they get a really interesting prospect in Andray Blatche, they get Jamison who is a useful player and trade chip, and combo Antonio Daniels is a decent player despite being picked high in the draft. Picks could also be involved as well.

Blatche is an interesting prospect but still has yet to prove that he can be a real good NBA player. Jamison is a free agent after this season. And Antonio Daniels? Really? There is no way he would start in front of Foye. The wizards would have to throw in a lot of picks for the wolves to trade KG for a prospect who is long way from being the kind of player he could be, a backup guard, and the best player involved would be gone after one year.

Antonio Daniels was just a suggestion as starter, but I left it open for any one to start at the point. So in this case Foye or Daniels could start depending on what the coach prefers.
KG is most likely gonna opt out and sign with a contender to get a ring before he retires like what Karl Malone and Gary Payton did with the Lakers.
I think the Wizards deal would work out better if it were Butler instead of Jamison. They could use Antawn at the SF spot and have a pretty big lineup.

Then, at least they will get something in return. I don't see the organization just letting a talent like Kevin Garnett walk onto another team without getting any pieces back.
It's really hard to imagine KG opting out and leaving $46Million on the table. This is just a direct shot at Kevin McHale to get something done. Watching KG miss the playoffs for a third straight season is going to be a shame.

People need to stop thinking that hoopshype is a respectable website. He can opt out before his final year and leave 24 million on the table.
This is the first time Ive ever heard about Garnett ever speaking out his opt out option after next season... or ever refering to possibly leaving the T'Wolves..

garnett really deserves much better than this. He is one of the NBA's classiest superstars (most of the time) who cant do anything with the players on his team now.
