Here's our summer league roster. I've highlighted the names of the players that are currently on our roster, and the players we have drafted.

    2007 NBA Summer League Schedule
Fri, July 6 4 p.m vs. San Antonio
    Sat, July 7 6 p.m. vs. Detroit
Mon, July 9 8 p.m vs. Golden State (CSN)
    Tue, July 10 8 p.m vs. L.A. Lakers (CSN)
Wed, July 11 8 p.m. vs. Phoenix (CSN)

    2007 Rocky Mountain Revue Schedule
Fri, July 13 6:30 p.m. vs. San Antonio
    Sat, July 14 9 p.m. vs. Utah
    Mon, July 16 4:15 p.m vs. Chicago
Tue, July 17 6:30 p.m. vs. San Antonio
Wed, July 18 TBD vs. Dallas
    Fri, July 20 2 p.m. vs. Atlanta
All times above are listed as Eastern Daylight Time

All discussion about summer league games should go here. Apparently they are airing some of the games on CSN (Comcast Sports Net). Unfortunately I don't have that channel here in California, so I won't be able to watch the games. If anyone has time to keep up and watch the games, a game summary would be greatly appreciated.

Our first game is today against the San Antonio Spurs

A Little Insight on Sixer Hopeful, John Cox

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And Cox has a cousin by the name of Kobe Bryant, with whom he has remained close throughout the years.

"Kobe is always encouraging me and telling me to keep working," said Cox, who added that after his summer-league duties, he expects to work out with his cousin.

For now, Cox is working at point guard. At 6-foot-5, he has the height to play the position and the versatility to move to shooting guard. In 34 games for Le Havre of the French League, he averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists this year.

"It's been a good experience, even off the court - a different culture and different way of life," Cox said.

Cox, who will turn 26 on Friday, wasn't drafted in 2005 after his senior year at San Francisco. This is his first NBA camp, and he has caught the eye of Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks.

"When you are looking at the point-guard position, you are looking for a guy who can run your basketball team, defend the point-guard position, and make his other teammates comfortable, and he does that extremely well," Cheeks said.

I am more than willing to cover the 3 CSN games. And also write a summary on how well we do.

Edin Bavacic: A year of inconsistency.

A forward that could play mulitple positions and shoot the 3 ball, he had a
nice shot at being something in the NBA. He showed that something in the
summer leagues last year before being sent back internationally, where
he averaged 57.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the
3pt range. As a result, averaging 12.6 PPG. To Edin Bavacic's fairness, he
didn't even average 30 minutes a contest (27.16 MPG). But, Edin Bavacic has
had strong games, followed by weak games, examples are his 16 PT game against
Split and his 12 PT game against Zadar....He followed up two good apperances
with a lowly 4 Pt game. Then against Hemofarm he came alive and scorched 22
on them, followed up by a 14 pt game. Then in 4 straight games, he only
registered 2 pts (twice). 7 and 9 pts respectively in that streach.
Followed by his 2 pt game, he exploded playing all 40 minutes and scoring
35 pts and shooting 73.3 from the field and 75.0 percent from the 3 pt
line. 91.7 percent from the strip and pure awesomeness. And it appeared
like he broke out of his slump: 13, 22, 26, 13,17,14. Those were the numbers
in his last 6 contests`. He went back to his inconsistency
putting up only 6 pts in a rematch with hemofarm, followed
by 2 decent games against Slovan (15 pts) and Olimpija (10 pts)
Here are his last five games: 12, 10....then 4,6,8.

If Edin Bavacic wants to make the NBA roster, he needs to be alot more
consistant offensively in the summer leagues. And he'll need to show some
    spark defensively as well.

    Nice write up Total_76ers_Fan [IMG]

I admit I don't know much about Edin Bavacic. He is a long-term project, and I honestly don't see him becoming much of a contributor in the NBA. But the Sixers must have seen something special in the guy to buy him away from Toronto. Stats wise, he looks pretty good, he just has to become more consistent.

Philadelphia Defeats San Antonio in Vegas Opener

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Louis Williams? dunk with 29 seconds left lifted the Philadelphia 76ers over the San Antonio Spurs in the inaugural game of the NBA Summer League. Williams, who appeared in 61 games last season for the Sixers, led the way with a game-high 19 points (6-11 FG) in 36 minutes of action.
Bobby Jones (11 points) gave Philadelphia the lead for good at 61-59 when he hit a three-pointer from the left wing with 1:55 left in the game. After an offensive foul by Spurs? center Jackie Butler, the Sixers iced the game with the final four points.

The Sixers led by as many as 14 points early on, but the Spurs used a 19-12 third quarter to get back in the game. Butler scored five straight during a 6-0 spurt to give the World Champs their biggest lead of the game at 53-48 in the third.

Former UNLV product Louis Amundson chipped in 16 points (4-12 FG) and a game-high 11 rebounds in the win.

?I?m just trying to work hard and play as well as I can,? Amundson, who appeared in 11 NBA games with the Sixers and Jazz last season, said of his goal to get back to the NBA. ?I understand that the D-League is different from the NBA, it?s a big step up. I?m just trying to work on my game and work hard, that?s all I can do.?

First-round pick Thaddeus Young displayed some nice moves en route to five points.

?It was great being out there playing,? Young said of his NBA debut. ?Much more physical than the college game, but I think I held my own and did alright.?

Three Spurs scored in double-figures led by James White (5-9 FG) and Las Vegas native C.J. Watson (5-11 FG) with 13 points a piece. Butler had 11 points (3-8 FG), five rebounds, six assists and committed eight fouls (five in the first half) in the loss.

The game marked the first of a nine-day, 55-game schedule for the summer league.

    Recap

    Boxscore

Nice victory by the Sixers, even though it doesn't mean much, it helps sets up a winning mentality for the young players.

Anyways, judging from the boxscores, I was most impressed by Louis Admunson, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 boards. If he can continue this play, he may make a case in making the final roster.

Louis Williams had an okay game. He made the game winning dunk and did a great job scoring the ball, finishing with 19 points, but he really has to stop turning the ball over. Last season in the Summer League, Louis Williams had the same problem. He was scoring, but he was turning the ball over way too much. Tonight, he had 7 turnovers. I would like to see him cut down those numbers and add in more assists.

I'm pretty disappointed with Rodney Carney. He shot only 3-12 and finished with 8 points. Hopefully he steps up game.

Thaddeus Young played 25 minutes, and had an alright game, but this is his first actual game with the Sixers, so I wasn't expecting him to have a huge game. I'm kind of disappointed Herbert Hill didn't get much playing time, I was looking forward to what he could accomplish.

Also, Derrick Byars is injured, which is the reason why he didn't play today.

Next game is Saturday against Detriot. I'm hoping the rookies can get more playing time

I don't read much into summer league play, its a good tool to get these guys ready for training camp and have them work on weak points in their game, but stats are irrelevant. As long as these guys are improving on their weak points I'm satisfied.

Sorry for being so worked up for nothing [IMG]

Anyways, the summer leagues always draw my interest, just like the draft. I like hearing about our new players and how they look against other competition. I guess I'm the only one. lol

I was the same way last year, I remember watching every game of the Bulls summer league on orlandomagic.com and I fell in love with this kid named Aaron Miles, he was tearing u the summer league. When the season started and I saw he didn't even make an NBA roster, I realized how little stats really meant in summer league.

That's true, we don't know what happened to cause Louis Williams to revert back to his turnover prone self. Well, actually, I have my suspicion it has to do with his ability to protect the ball, although improved, it's very poor. Louis Williams is a scorer, and he can make plays in the half-court, but to imagine him running a cohesive full-court team would take alot of work. It'll take him, this whole year, perhaps to turn into what he can be as a point. But otherwise, a great deal of improvment from a 17 year old kid 2 years ago eh?

    New game results just in.
    http://www.nba.com/summerleague2007/games/...meId=1520700006

Was a close one all the way through. Louis Williams scored well again but turned the ball over too often. Thaddeus had a nice game, but the great news is Herbet Hill's game. Double figure scoring, perfect from the floor and 5 boards in just over 20 mins. Very impressive. Steal of the second round!!!

Anyway, just thought I would post the boxscore and keep everyone up to date!!

Nice game by Herbert Hill. Although Williams did turn the ball over quite a bit, at least he cut it down to 4. I'm impressed by his scoring though. Thaddeus Young had an decent game, but his field goal percentage could be better. Rodney Carney once again struggling, shooting only 3-13. I'm kind of disappointed. I was expecting more out of him, considering he was our 1st round pick last year. Going 3-12 and 3-13 in consecutive games is not acceptable. I'm also disappointed that he ended up with 0 rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Hopefully this doesn't continue into the season. I liked Carney when we first drafted him, but he has not been doing a great job in the Summer League at all.

Williams had 6 turnovers actually!!! And Carney really is disappointing me too. For a first round pick last year, he should be dominating the scrubs of the summer league, but he is playing extremely poorly. I can handle a bad shooting game, even two, so long as the player is contributing and busting his ass everywhere else. No rebounds is ridiculous.

You're right, Williams did have 6 turnovers. He really has to work on his decision making and passing, because I remember that last year in the Summer Leagues he was committing tons of turnovers as well.

I know the Summer Leagues do not mean much, but Rodney Carney's play has been really disappointing as of late. I really hope he steps up. If you look at his numbers, he doesn't seem like a great rebounder, he doesn't get tons of assists, he's primarily a scorer. If you're a scorer, you can't afford to shoot 3-12 and 3-13 on consecutive nights. Hopefully he's just in a really bad slump

Prolly just rusty. Herbert is impressing me too..maybe he'll really make a case to start? Lets see what happens after the summer league.

If Lou Will can just cut down on his turnovers, he'll be fine..I really want him to get some minutes next season.

Me too. I think he will really develop into a great point guard for us, just decision making needs work (under the taching of Andre Miller he should improve). Herbert could end up starting and putting up serious numbers. Hopefully Carney can shake it off, come back next game and show us some promise....

I already told you guys, there is no promise in Rodney Carney, I'd rather trade Carney then I would Korver, but Korver has more value so at this point, that would have to be the decision. But, Carney really does suck.

Like I said before summer league doesn't really mean jack as far as judging how good someone is. Kareem Rush, Jannero Pargo, Deavan George, are all notable former summer league all stars who really have never amounted to much in the league. Let's wait until the season starts to judge how good Carney is. Plus like you said Korver's value is much higher right now so it would bring us more in a trade.

Carney, Williams, Lead Sixers Past the Lakers

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rodney Carney and Louis Williams helped the Philadelphia 76ers defeat the Los Angeles Lakers, 98-95 in OT. Williams and Carney combined for 59 total points, including 30 free throws.

With the Sixers down by three in regulation, Carney hit the tying 3-pointer to knot the score at 87-87 with 10.3 seconds left. On the ensuing play, the Lakers could not get off a shot.

In the overtime period, Carney scored eight of his game-high 30 points (10-18 FG, 7-8 FT) to seal the win for Philadelphia. The Lakers had cut it to two on a 3-pointer by Coby Karl, but Carney hit two free throws on the other end to push the lead back to four.

“In the previous games, I was being a little too over-aggressive,” Carney said of his play thus far. “Tonight I just tried to play my game and relax.”

Williams continued his summer league hot streak, by pouring in 29 points (6-15 FG, 16-22 FT), five rebounds and five assists. Williams’ 22 free throws were more than the entire Laker team (21). He came into the game averaging 24.7 points in the previous three contests.

“Summer league is the time to improve,” Williams remarked about his improved play this summer. “This opportunity to play is making me tougher, keeping me in shape and giving me a chance to work on my defensive skills.”

Karl had a nice game for the Lakers, displaying toughness and the ability to knock down the open shot. He finished with a team-high 23 points (8-13 FG, 4-6 FT) in 25 minutes of play. Farmar ran the point well for the Lakers, collecting a double-double with 18 points (7-10 FG) and dishing out 11 assists in 27 minutes of action.

Another big game by Louis Williams. It was nice to finally see Rodney Carney playing well. Hopefully this will continue

We all know that Louis Williams can flat out score in these NBA Summer League games, so why doesn't he just distribute the ball and show everyone he can be a pure point guard too? The last thing this team needs right now is a point guard to be converted to a shooting guard half way through the rebuilding process, and that's the way it looks right now. Louis is not showing me that he can run the point at the next level, only averaging 5 assists a game in summer play. It wouldn't hurt to give McNamara more playing time either. Most importantly, Thaddeus Young should be getting more than 7 shots in 30 minutes of work at this point in his career. Same goes for guys like Herbert Hill and Derrick Byars, get them more involved also.

Louis could really help his chances to earn significant playing time this year if in these last few summer league games he played excellent defense and distribute the ball, as that's what his current coach used to do best. Not to mention that I feel that's the recipe for success, you need you point guard to control the game, distribute the ball, and play defense. Louis becomes a free agent after this year, and I wouldn't hesitate to move him with the draft class next year that could very well be loaded with point guards.
