Ray, an undrafted free agent out of Villanova, signed last July and played in 47 games for Boston, including five starts. He averaged 15.1 minutes, getting extra playing time because of injuries to guards Wally Szczerbiak and Tony Allen and swingman Paul Pierce. </div>

Well, didnt expect this at all. Any specific reason why he was cut? It's not like he didnt play well. I'll be interested to see who picks him up now, hopefully he'll see more playing time too.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Allan Ray will play overseas upon agreeing to a two-year contract with Italian Serie A team Lottomatica Roma worth $2 million, a league source said yesterday.

The deal is a significant pay increase for Ray, who would have earned $687,456 with the Celtics next season. Boston had until Wednesday to decide whether to pick up the option on the guard's contract.

Ray won't need to wait long to face NBA competition. The Toronto Raptors play Lottomatica Oct. 7 in Rome. The Celtics play the Raptors Oct. 6 in a preseason contest in Rome as part of NBA Europe Live.

As a rookie, Ray averaged 6.2 points in 15.1 minutes last season. But with the addition of shooting guard Ray Allen, Ray became expendable.

The Celtics will have the maximum 15 players under contract next season if they sign second-round picks Glen Davis and Gabe Pruitt.</div>

I would've done the same in his position.

He's supposed to be a shooter, but his jumper was very inconsistent all year. He really has no other strong points in his game and we really have no need for him to be on the roster.

6.2PPG in 15.1MPG for a rookie who went undrafted seems decent to me.

All Allan Ray would do was chuck the ball. His specialty was shooting but he would take alot of bad shots that would go off target. No surprise getting rid of this guy when he was shooting 38%.

Anyone remember when he got his eye poked out back at Villanova?

I agree with 44 and GA though, he was too much of a hacker, and the C's had 16 players when the maximum is only 15, so they had to cut him.

I remember him being a beast for Villanova.

Hopefully he can develop more in Italy and return here.

That is the most distugsting thing ever [IMG]

I agree with Appolo, he should head over to Europe and play there for 1-2 years before trying out for another NBA team.

You can't waive a guy and just re-sign him, and didn't someone say he's going to Italy?

Good move by Ray. He will get lots of experiance and come back to play well. Like NTC said, he scored more then 20 points 3 times and 22 once. He didn't play a lot and he is waived? Weird, he will be a good player.
