I remember his last season with the Knicks and he was pretty washed up. This was two years ago and he's not getting any younger. I actually think Tim Hardaway would be a better fir than Penny.
Hardaway insists he can still play <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI (AP) - Able to run and jump without pain for the first time in five years, Penny Hardaway insists there's still much he can do in the NBA. The Miami Heat apparently agree. Hardaway spoke Friday about his new contract with the Heat, one that comes with no financial guarantees for the 36-year-old who has battled knee problems for much of a career that once seemed destined for superstardom. </div> TSN
<div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Didn't Shaq refer to him as Fredo a couple of seasons ago? Fredo was the dipshit brother in the Godfather who betrays the family and gets whacked.</div> Yep, and its a great quote too. Fits perfectly for all three of them. "The difference between those three is the Godfather trilogy. One is Fredo, who was never ready for me to hand it over to him. One is Sonny, who will do whatever it takes to be the man, and one is Michael, who if you watch the trilogy, the Godfather hands it over to Michael. So I have no problem handing it over to Dwyane." (on Penny Hardaway, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade)
Amazing analogy. Sonny's a bad ass. I was researching Penny's career a few weeks back, checking out clips from the finals wit the Magic, game highlights and watchin some mixes and he was really something special. Not a Wade-Bryant type of star, but still a star. Hopefully he still has something left in those legs.
they say he's now pain-free and with the Knicks he had alot pain when playing so this could be a different Penny IMO Magic days he was like a Bryant-Wade type player

<div class="quote_poster">Gee_Dupe11 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">they say he's now pain-free and with the Knicks he had alot pain when playing so this could be a different Penny</div> Yeah, that was my initial reaction, but then I went and looked up where Penny was at five years ago: 2001-02 (w/Phoenix) - 12.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.1 apg I remember that season like it was yesterday, because back then I was a diehard Suns fan that would watch all their games on league pass. Hardaway was effective that season, but even then he was a shell of his former self. Once you add five years of not playing and all the rust and aging that entails, I'm extremely skeptical that he can even be that productive again. BTW - I think P.A.P.'s comparison to Joe Johnson is right on the money, for Penny in his prime at least. But now imagine Joe Johnson ten years from now, having not played consistently in five years, and with crippling knee injuries.
I don't wanna crack on Hardaway but the guy is old and I don't see him producing anything. Smush Parker now Hardaway? Do the Heat wanna lose?? I don't see a reliable pickup here to replace Eddie Jones. He can play 3 positions but still.

The problem is he didn't get much playing time from Isiah, who was keen on putting up a small five on the floor. Hardaway will be an able back up for the Heat.
Penny's pain free: " Having shed 22 pounds and overcome a debilitating knee injury, Penny Hardaway said Friday he's pain-free and primed to resume his NBA career with the Heat. A day after signing a one-year, non-guaranteed contract, Hardaway, 36, said his knee problems are behind him after surgery to remove a bone spur 1 ? years ago. ''I'm able to run without any pain for the first time in five years,'' he said. ``I can cut, I can jump.'' " SOURCE: http://www.miamiherald.com/594/story/200023.html
