Pat Riley noted last week that in ratings he uses, Dorell Wright was fourth in the NBA among backup shooting guards and small forwards. But when Riley said ''this could be [Wright's] breakout year,'' it came with the usual caveat -- ''as long as he doesn't have anybody in front of him that's always giving me a chance to make a decision to play somebody ahead of him.'' . . . Riley said he likes the idea of using Dwyane Wade, Jason Williams and Smush Parker together at times.</div>

i dont want to give up haslem, but i suppose it would be worth it? with artest's defensive ability, good scoring ability, and decent rebounding for his size, he does bring a lot to our team. a trio of wade, shaq, and artest is pleasing to me, but i dont want to lose haslem in the process.

It's a huge gamble for the Heat, but Riley must be confident he can replace what Haslem does on the court. It's a solid deal for both teams if the Heat get back All-Star caliber Ron Artest. I imagine Artest will be under good behavior with Shaq in the locker room, but if he becomes a distraction, then the Heat's season goes down the toilet in a hurry.

Artest might be able to play minutes at power forward for the Heat, or they could go with a huge frontcourt of Zo/Shaq.

Long term how would this deal effect Miami? Trading Haslem would free up more cap space next summer and the following summer, but with Artest becoming a free agent after this year, do the Heat turnaround and use their cap space on him?

If not then is renting Artest for a season worth dealing your starting PF?

if you want to remain relevant you have to do this trade if you're the Heat...Haslem is a nice role player, but if you have a chance at getting Ron then you do it....if it doesn't work out then you have money to spend come next offseason...

Yeah, take the chance. A lot of other teams have made improvements and you can't lag behind (Smush Parker is not really a big improvement!)

Artest would have two very strong willed enforcers (Shaq and Riley) to keep his head straight. He is an all star, can do a lot of things on the court, he does defend and rebound well, plus can be a third scoring option.

The Heat have to make this happen if they want any chance of making noise after 82 games.

I guess it would be good to give us some cap room and if Artest plays up to his ability and stays out of trouble he can be a real contributor for us. Apparently we're looking at PJ but Alexander Johnson would be nice.

I think you have already signed Alexander Johnson.

I don't like this trade at all. If Artest proves to not be an ass, then it's a solid trade. I just like Haslem the best on the Heat besides D-Wade.

but Haslem is a decent role player........I understand that he is a solid piece to have around, but with Wade out for the first month and with the Celtics loading up you NEED someone else to go with D. Wade, because Shaq is over the hill....if the Heat get Artest then I'd automatically pick them to take the east....a 3 headed monster of Wade (who imo is the best player in b-ball right now), Artest (a legit 2nd option and great defender), and Shaq (although he's slowed down can still be very effective) would be hell for any team to go up against....

I'm kinda iffy on this one. We aren't going anywhere with this current roster. We need some sort of change. Haslem is one of our few valuable assets but we have no solid PF to replace him. He's a very good poster defender and even though Artest does a better job at that, it's not going to be his job to do that against the top bigs each night.

I'll go for a trade for Artest with Boston getting the big three The heat need to get one more great player and Artest is the guy. Its a gamble and a risk but there going to have to take.

you still have Wayne Simien.....this trade makes so much sense if you're Miami...Haslem costs too much for the role that he plays....you're getting a all star talent and if things don't pan out then you have money to spend next summer in the F.A. market to build for the future...you do this trade 10 times out of 10.

I say do it. It's a gamble we need to take if we want to stay competitive in the East. We need a bench though.
