<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Celtics have agreed to terms with James Posey, a player who should give the Celtics defense a significant upgrade. This 6-8 forward, known in particular for his role as a defensive stopper on the 2006 Miami team that won the NBA title, averaged 7.7 points, five boards and one steal per game last season. The deal came together with relative haste. Though Danny Ainge, the Celtics? director of basketball operations, had been in touch with Posey over the last month, discussions gained momentum yesterday, after Reggie Miller informed the Celtics that he would not come out of retirement to join the team. By this afternoon, the sides had reached agreement on a deal that will pay Posey just over $3 million - the amount left on the team?s mid-level exception - next season. The full contract will pay him $7 million over the next two years, with Posey holding an option on the second season.</div> Source: Boston Herald
That's a solid signing by the Celtics. They needed a good perimeter defender and he's also a good shooter as well. The Celtics have definitely been upgraded this off-season.
The signing of KG and RA were huge, but maybe Posey will be the most important...the Big Three were gunna be good...no doubt..Posey adds depth and intensity that will compliment the Big three...allowing PP and RA to be spelled with out losing any intensity (well maybe a lil bit). Does RA now becom ethe sixth man? Posey as the starter gettin the opponents best scoring mid sized player?
Ray Allen will not come off the bench, not a chance in the world. The signing of Posey definitely upgrades the teams defence and also gives some assurance at the 2 and 3 positions. Very good signing and a very important piece to the Boston puzzle.
wow what a great signing. I didn't even know Boston was in the James Posey conversation. I thought for sure hed sign with the Heat or the Mavs.
This is a great signing, but the timing of it really scares me. Was Posey really the Reggie Miller backup plan?
You guys need a PG but I love this signing. He is a great role player and a great backup to Pierce. Solid Signing. Now get a PG
I believe in Rondo. However, a vet PG would help them a lot. Eddie House is more of a shooter, and using him as a backup PG would hurt the Celtics because they lose his great shooting. Man, the Celtics are dangerous from outside now. Scares me...

Fantastic addition to the Celtics roster. Not only do they add a legitimate role player with playoff experience, they take him away from the Heat. He'll probably be the 6th man off the bench and become Pierce's primary backup. The Celtics could also put a lineup of Allen-PG Pierce-SG Posey-SF during certain stretches of a game.

How much money do they have left. I mean you think a team with Garnett, Pierce and Allen would be tight. They still signed Posey, House, Pollard...I just don't know.

Posey got most or all of that remaining 3.8 mils. Pollard and the NBDL guy were minimum contract players, a team can sign as many of those as they want no matter their cap situation. I believe they're fairly well over the luxury tax line but since they're trying to compete this year its not much of a concern for them. Right now I think they're limited to just signing minimum contract players or trades. They may have a small LLE exception or something like that to use.

Bye bye Jackie Manuel. Never should have been signed in the first place. Great signing by Danny Ainge. Now all this team needs to do is bring in Mike Wilks and Hoffa for the minimum and the roster will be complete.
