QUOTE

Restricted free agent small forward Mickael Pietrus' agent informed Golden State he prefers a sign-and-trade to Miami, and the Heat has been trying to find a third team with something the Warriors want.

    Source: Miami Herald

Pietrus will probably sign a deal worth $4M to $5M (Warriors current Qualifying Offer is for $3,470,770), so Miami will have to ship out either Jason Williams ($8,937,500) to a third team, or a package deal involving Michael Doleac ($3,120,000) and either Daequan Cook ($987,000), Wayne Simien ($997,800), or Chris Quinn ($687,456).

It's going to be difficult for Miami to find a third team to take on two players this last in the summer. Daequan Cook has the most upside in any deal combined with Doleac, but I imagine Miami would like to hold on to him if possible.

There only option seems to be dealing Jason Williams to a third team.

The tricky part for the Warriors is acquiring a player in return in the final year of his deal who can help the team out this season. The Warriors need cap space next summer to re-sign their young players.

At this point what do the Warriors still need and who is a viable player to demand for Pietrus?

This would be a positive step for Miami, I believe Pietrus still has not reached his potential.

If I'm GS I shoot for the moon and ask for Wright.

According to the article the Warriors aren't taking back anything Miami is offering for Pietrus. Miami is trying to find a third team to get a sign and trade worked out, so Dorrell Wright isn't an option.

Yeah the Warriors situation is probably that they want to be able to afford young core guys like Ellis and Biedrins and also create some flexibility based on how we perform as a team in the playoffs this year (assuming we get to the playoffs). We don't want to lock up guys again like Murphy, Dunleavy, Foyle, and Fisher and then realize... oh crap it'll be hard to move these guys for better or equal talent (partly because of contract rules which restrict most trades from being legal in the first two years of the signing). We had to dump Fisher for 3 Jazz guys that never stuck, we bought out Foyle's contract, and we were lucky that it only cost Ike Diogu to get rid of Dunleavy and Murphy and we got two solid guys in return (one of them at times quite a very good player but is kind of a thug mentality).

Maybe the demand for Pietrus is treated differently because he's more athletic than any of the four we locked up and he plays a lot more amazing than any of those four duds we signed in 2004. But he's just as bad IMO because he's not a smart basketball player and he's going to cost us some plays down the stretch. If we get Dorrell Wright, it could be a step above Pietrus, but again we're taking a gamble with another raw, inconsistent player that probably isn't the best defender compared to Pietrus, nor the best baseline shooter. If we want a guy to fill our bench, he has to be dependable, not show flashes of awesomeness and then dumbness or inability to perform right off the bench. We need a consistent 2nd unit this year and I'd rather see it filled with former one-time all-stars or key pieces that could fit our roster and produce like we need them to. We can't go into the playoffs playing like we did when we hit the 2nd round. We need everybody because only 3 of our starters and one bench player bothered to step up every single game when it mattered. One of those players was Monta Ellis, but I hope he can improve this season if we make the playoffs again. Not sure what happened to Al Harrington though. I thought the guy would do better considering his regular season game.

Cus we all know dumping fisher and getting nothing in return was still a major upgrade. WE actually got exactly what Fisher was worth to us. nothing.

Woudlnt we have to take back more than wright contractually? Like j-will and wright for POB/Piety?

LOL. I thought it would just be better not to have signed Fisher at all (save the ink, save the paper, save the gas from having to fly up here) and just let Speedy Claxton play 42 games a season as starter and get some guy with a squeegee off the street to play his backup.

I'm not even sure how much Pietrus thinks he is worth versus how much Dorrell Wright thinks he is worth. I think they'd have to be equal for 1-1 sign and trade purposes. Or we could just sign and trade him and get some kind of trade exception, but I'm not sure if Miami has one in place or if they'd be willing to give it up, or if this is legal under the CBA. I don't even think we've used our trade exceptions yet... Plus, these are two guys coming off of rookie scale contracts, so I'm not sure if that also plays a part. We know Pietrus is a restricted free agent under Larry Bird rule (Bird Rights) and I'm guessing Dorrell Wright is as well (because of his upside and Miami's reluctance to just give him away). I could look this all up, but man I don't even care about either of these players. I'm not even sure why I'm posting in this thread. LOL. Let's talk Biedrins or Ellis! You know guys who are naturally basketball smart to compete at such a young age? I'm just messing: Pietrus and Wright are okay. [IMG]

I'm wondering if we could get Jason Williams. That would be an interesting player to have backing up Baron Davis.

Wouldn't packaging sarunas and pietrus equal jason williams contract? It seems like a great fit for sarunas in miami's offense and j-will would fit our running style. OR can you not add a player in a sign n trade deal to make things work?

Aside from Wade, Wright is the Heat's best young player. They will not trade him for Pietrus.

Kelenna is a shooting guard in the mold of Jason Richardson. A natural SF in a SG's body.

I'm not a fan of the CBA, and this is why. Miami can't trade for a guy making less than MLE.

Pietrus would be a score for Miami. They just lost Posey, and Pietrus would fill that role and could even play a lot of time next to Wade at G.

I'd honestly be happiest with losing Pietrus for nothing. I want Azubuike to get some minutes to show what he's got (which I suspect is a lot), and that's already going to be hard without yet another G/F in the mix.
