Thank you^ I mean, a championship team doesn't need tons of superstars. I mean, guys with grit, determination, and skill can win.

Don't over look the Raptors though. I mean, we have good defesne, and it will get better.

Shaq is not a superstar anymore. You can't rely on him to win a championship. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago yes. (when he was with the lakers)

Parker, another example of a player getting better when playing with a superstar, but he himself is not a superstar, not even top 5 PG, (kidd, nash, paul, davis, billups)

I'm not arguing with you. I think the Celtics have two superstars in Garnett in Pierce along with a star in Ray Allen. They have tons of talent and if that team can mesh and develop chemistry, they're going to be really scary. I just didn't like how you called Doc Rivers a great coach after many Celtics faithful were dying for him to be fired last year.

I know man, it's no problem, I just said it for the others that would want to go on and debate whether tmac is better and so on.

and yeah, I don't think doc is a great coach, but he's the coach right now so I had to put him there. lol, the defensive coach that is our assistant might be a great coach in the making. (thibedeau i think is his name)

I also think that the idea that a team must have at least two superstars to compete for a championship is false in today's NBA. In this day and age, a team with great chemistry, defense, and coaching would defeat a team with two or more superstars. This has been evident as teams like the Rockets and Suns continue to lose in the playoffs while teams like the Spurs and the Pistons continue to take the championships. The one exception to this would be the Miami Heat but how often do we see a duo that's AS GOOD as Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal were that year? Not very often. I know if I were building a team, I'd focus on getting a great coach, preaching great defense, and acquiring a serviceable big man.

Amare's not versatile enough to be considered a superstar.

Pierce is far from a superstar. There are six "superstars" in the league, in my opinion [in no order]: Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Kevin Garnett.

There is not a team in this league that has two superstars.

The Celtics are among the best teams in the Eastern Conference and have a great shot at making the ECFs, but they aren't good enough, presently, to win a championship. Underrating them is as bad as overrating them.Your comments in that post are laughable.

I don't see it. I stand by my words. This team could prove to have great chemistry. Rando, Perk, House could all have career years. Ray and Paul could play a full season together. This team may not get hit with the injury bug. However, at this time because of all those variables and until I see a game and how the big three play together I cannot say that they are better than Detroit or Chicago, whom I say are, at this time with the available factual information the best teams in the east. Don't add everyone's career averages together and think you know what Boston's offense is going to be like. Don't tell me what these guys have doneon their own because the second the first game starts it don't mean squat. Everyone knows Boston has three great players, everyone knew Dallas had a kick ass team last year too.

Need one quality big man, either a shooting guard or point guard that is all-star caliber and great coaching and defense.

Um, what do you mean not versatile? He is a very good defender, he can shoot the J, play inside and catches passes as well as any big man in the league. He runs the court, he is by far one of the most athletic players in the league and can play at a high level.

Now, I wouldn't call him a "Superstar" but, a star, he is. One day though, he will be a superstar, and one of the best, most athletic, big men in our generation.

    Mike Scottie

    Hakeem Drexler

    Stockton Malone

    Shaq Kobe

    Duncan Ginobili

    Magic Kareem

    Thomas Dumars

And for anyone who says Stockton and Malone arent a championship duo you would have to also Negate Drexler and Hakeem because the won on during the Jordanless Years. If mikedidnt retire the bulls wouldve won 8 in a row.

I read a really good article on this on 82games.com Here it is:

    http://82games.com/dennis.htm

92% of NBA Champions had a recent All-NBA 1st Team Selection

Of the past 49 NBA Champions, 45 had a player named All-NBA 1st team during the 4 years preceding the championship season. In other words, an NBA championship roster should include a Top 5 caliber player operating at the top of his game.

Only 4 NBA champions failed to have a player named All-NBA 1st team during the 4 years preceding the championship season. Two of these teams, the 1976-77 Portland Trailblazer and the 1978-79 Seattle Supersonics had players—Bill Walton and Dennis Johnson, respectively—who were named All-NBA 1st Team in subsequent seasons. The other two teams, the 2003-04 Detroit Pistons and 1969-70 New York Knicks, had Top 10 caliber players who were named All-NBA 2nd Team the prior season.

The MVP is usually awarded to a player named to the All NBA 1st Team, and provides an advantage over other All NBA selections. Over 65% of all NBA Champions had a player named the league’s MVP in one of the four seasons prior to winning the NBA title (over 75% if you look beyond four years).

81% of NBA Champions had a recent All-Defensive 1st Team Selection

Does defense win NBA championships? All-Defensive teams were first named following the 1969-70 season. Since that time, 29 of 36 NBA champions had at least one player named All-Defensive 1st Team during the 4 seasons prior to the championship season. When All-Defensive 2nd Team selections are considered, the percentage jumps to 89% of NBA champions.

Even the 7 teams without an All-Defensive honoree had All-Defensive caliber players on the roster. Players on five of these championship teams were named All-Defensive 1st Team in a subsequent season, and the other two championship teams, the 1974-75 Golden State Warriors and the 1980-81 Boston Celtics, included at least two players who were named All-Defensive 2nd Team in a subsequent season.

The defensive player of the year (DPOY) award is usually given to an All-Defensive 1st Team selection. Since the DPOY award was created, 12 of the 22 NBA Champions had a previous DPOY winner on the roster.

92% of NBA Champions had a Player Ranked in the Top 8 in Efficiency the Preceding Season

Which statistical leaders are important to a championship team? I found correlations between championship teams and the prior season’s top 10 scorers and top 10 rebounders. Leaders in assists, blocked shots and steals were less relevant to championship success the following season.

The statistical leaders who appeared most on championship rosters were leaders in the NBA’s efficiency statistic. Recently adopted as an official statistic by the NBA, efficiency is a measure of a player’s overall effectiveness. According to efficiency statistics published by www.basketballreference.com, of the past 49 NBA Champions, 45 had a player who finished in the Top 8 in efficiency the preceding season.

    So this is the breakdown:

1 NBA 1st teamer: In the future, Chris Bosh

1 NBA 1st defensive teamer: hopefully, Anthony Parker, Jorge Garbo, or Bargnani or even Bosh in the future.

1 Player ranked in top 8 efficiency: Chris Bosh was 10th last year

Plus I think most championship teams had at least one sidekick. Spurs had Ginobili, Heat had Wright or Posey, Lakers had Fisher. (im talking about 3rd options here) hopefully for us, that will be bargnani or tj ford in any order.

As for the Celtics, you may say that they have those 3 people, but outside of Garnett, no one fills any of those positions, which is why i think they come short of a championship IMO. Eithier way, im not admitting that the celtics are better than the raptors now.
