GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- The Arizona Cardinals tookadvantage of a late miscue to pull out a 23-20 victory over theSeattle Seahawks on Sunday.

After a hand-off between Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck andhalfback Shaun Alexander was fumbled with just under twominutes left, the Cardinals drove 21 yards on four plays intofield goal range. That set the stage for Neil Rackers, whodrilled a 43-yarder with one second left.

The victory was the first for Arizona (1-1) under rookie coachKen Whisenhunt.

The Seahawks (1-1) appeared to be in control after a shaky firsthalf, turning a 17-0 deficit into a 20-17 lead early in thefourth quarter.

Nate Burleson got Seattle on the board with 1:20 left in thefirst half, catching a 17-yard TD pass from Hasselbeck, who was22-of-36 for 281 yards.

Alexander scored on a 16-yard at the 8:47 mark of the thirdquarter, and Josh Brown knotted the score five minutes laterwith a 28-yard field goal.

Brown kicked another 28-yarder in the fourth quarter to put theSeahawks ahead.

Rackers drilled a 52-yarder with 4:53 left, but Seattle tookpossession and appeared driving toward the game-winning scorebefore the botched play set the stage for Racker's game-winner.

Rackers opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal in the<div class="pre">first quarter, and Arizona scored a pair of touchdowns in the</div>second quarter.

Quarterback Matt Leinart hooked up with tight end Leonard Popefor a 30-yard touchdown pass, and Edgerrin James scored on a17-yard run to put the Cardinals ahead 17-0.

"When that 53-yarder hit the left upright earlier I was reallyexcited to get another opportunity to get one beyond 50 with theway it went last season," Rackers said. "I feel like Iconquered my demons.

"That was the exact spot, 41-yards on the left hash that Imissed last year in the Chicago game. This summer I probablyhit that ball 500 times so I felt pretty confident but it is abig weight that was lifted off my shoulder."

The victory was the first for Arizona (1-1) under rookie coachKen Whisenhunt.

"The big thing is we made a play, defensively, at the end of thegame when things weren't going great," Whisenhunt said. "One ofthe things people say about this football team is not beingable to finish a game."

The Seahawks (1-1) appeared to be in control after a shaky firsthalf, turning a 17-0 deficit into a 20-17 lead early in thefourth quarter.

"It was a game of two halves. We weren't very good in the firsthalf and were a lot better in the second half," Seahawks coachMike Holmgren said. "We had a chance to win at the end and wemisfired. The fumble was a miscommunication. We weren't gettingtoo exotic right there."

"When they were driving I was looking at the goal post fromwhere we were and I said he can't make it from here so we haveto stop them right here," said Cardinals defensive linemanDarnell Dockett, who recovered Hasselbeck's fumble. "We made anadjustment with our coaches and came out and executed exactlyhow that play broke down."

Rackers opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal in thefirst quarter, and Arizona scored a pair of touchdowns in thesecond quarter.

Quarterback Matt Leinart hooked up with tight end Leonard Popefor a 30-yard touchdown pass, and Edgerrin James scored on a17-yard run to put the Cardinals ahead 17-0.

Leinart finished 23-of-37 for 299 yards, and James rushed 23times for 127 yards.

"It kind of feels like a monkey off your back," Leinart said."All theses games go down the last couple of minutes butsomething doesn't go our way and we end up losing.

"This game the ball bounced our way and we made a play when weneeded it most. I am happy the way I performed and bounced back. What I have to remember is that I have two great receivers, Ijust have to get the ball in their hands and Edge ran the ballgreat."

Deion Branch, who did not catch a pass in Seattle's 20-6season-opening win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, caughtseven passes for 122 yards.

Hasselback was 22-of 36 for 281 yards and the one touchdown.

"I guess I am in shock still. I don't know what happened,"Hasselbeck said. "I was trying to hand the ball off to Shaun anda guy came through the middle of us. There was some confusionas to what play we were going to run. I can't believe ithappened."

Re: NFL: SEATTLE (1-0) at ARIZONA (0-1)

I was at the Cards game today. It was great. There were about 10 wasted Seahawks fans sitting in front of us, but they were pretty cool. [IMG] Cardinals got out to an early lead, but then the Seahawks scored 20 unanswered and I thought we were going to blow it again, but Rackers really came up in the clutch. The Seahawks had a chance to go for the winning score, but fumbled it away to us and with Edge and the new, suddenly GOOD offensive line we took it down to 5 seconds and then Rackers kicked it in. Awesome......This team looks really good right now. Leinart still has room to improve and so does most of the team, but the running game has been great. Edge rushed for over 120 yards on a 5.3ypc average and rushed for his 2nd TD of the season, tying last season's mark I believe. The offensive line like I mentioned has made a huge improvement. Also the defense has looked better. I credit the new strength and conditioning coach for part of their improvement. The players are all just in better shape. Dockett is now playing like he should and the team has been great at stopping the run.And thanks to Russ Grimm for helping the o-line too.Holy crap, I'm actually enjoying football season....Hope we get the upset next week and/or the week after. My teams were once again 3-0 on the day. Great play by Dockett to cause that fumble, which turned this game from a loss into a win. Rackers was money and the defense played well. The running game looks good and Whiz opened up the playbook. Still we cant expect to give up 20 unanswered point to anyone and win. The offense needs to become more consistent and the Pendergrast just needs to keep attacking on defense.
