Cowboys offense faces stiff test against Bears' defense

Dallas at Chicago ,8:15 pm EDT

Dallas (2-0) at Chicago (1-1) Sunday 8:30 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The strength of the Dallas Cowboys this seasonfigured to be their offense, and so far they have lived up toexpectations.

But the Cowboys could be hard-pressed to put up big numbersSunday night, when they visit the Chicago Bears in a keyearly-season NFL battle.

Through two games, Dallas has scored a league-high 82 points andhas surpassed 35 points in consecutive contests for the firsttime since 1987.

The Cowboys' defense also helped out in last week's 37-20 winover the Miami Dolphins, forcing five turnovers. That helpedDallas break open a close game with 27 second-half points.

Tony Romo, who owns the league's second-highest passer rating(119.3), has helped the Cowboys get off to their first 2-0 startsince 1999.

Dallas was picked by many observers to win the NFC East and, with a victory over the Bears, could stake an early claim as theNFC's best team.

But the Cowboys will be facing the league's best defense fromlast season, and the Bears have been especially tough againstthe run so far this year.

In last week's 20-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bearsheld Larry Johnson, the NFL's second-leading rusher last year,to 55 yards on 16 carries.

That came on the heels of a dominating effort the week beforeagainst LaDanian Tomlinson. While the Bears dropped their seasonopener to the San Diego Chargers, 14-13, they limited Tomlinsonto 25 yards on 17 carries.

Now, the Bears turn their attention to Cowboys running backMarion Barber, who has rushed 154 yards and three TDs.

Chicago got an offensive boost last week from Cedric Benson, whosurpassed the century mark for only the second time in hiscareer with 101 yards on 24 carries.

Dallas leads the series, 12-8. The NFC rivals have not met since2004, when the Cowboys posted a 21-7 victory.
