For some NBA players, the offseason mind games can be overwhelming. But not for Nuggets center Marcus Camby, who doesn't give a second thought to things over which he has little control.

This past summer, Camby's future with the Nuggets was the team's biggest offseason story. Faced with an exorbitant luxury tax, the idea of trading Camby to ease the payroll was broached within the organization.

Camby, who is owed $9 million this season, never wanted to leave and said so on numerous occasions.

"Yeah, I'm happy to be back in Denver," Camby said. "Even though I think I had a great five years, this will be my sixth year with the team, and I think I had a great time here. I did a lot of great things on and off the court.

"I understand that it's still a business and anything can happen, but I don't think I warranted anything from my play or what I do off the court for me to be traded."

There is a caveat. The luxury tax is not due until the summer after the season ends, so moves could still be made.

The Nuggets' payroll is a little more than $83 million, and they could end up paying about $16 million in luxury tax.

Regardless of the monetary concerns, forward Carmelo Anthony said he never thought Camby would be traded.

"We weren't worrying about that," Anthony said. "I wasn't getting rid of Marcus Camby, the Nuggets wasn't getting rid of Marcus Camby. I think they were just talking from salary cap talk. But Marcus Camby was never a question of leaving."

Not that any of this was Camby's biggest worry.

That worrying was saved for his daughter, Maya, who was born three months premature May 9. After a lengthy hospital stay, Maya has been home with Camby and his wife, Eva, for two weeks.

Camby said it was his toughest period he's ever gone through.

"Any time that your child is life or death on any given day," Camby said. "It was tough for me, but it was more tough for my wife, more tough for my mom and our extended family.

"Everybody was worried about us and worried about our daughter. But thank God everything turned out for the best right now, and she has been home for two weeks, and we're happy to have her home."

The Lakers tried earlier in the summer but Denver basically laughed at their offer. I think it was Kwame and filler?

If the Nuggets decided to deal Camby you can bet money it will be with a team in the East. They don't traded the DPOY to a Western Conference opponent.

Orlando might be a team who has the trading pieces to get Camby. They have a lot of expiring contracts including Arroyo, Garrity, and Dooling.

So the Lakers wouldn't trade Bynum for Camby?

I would, just to have a chance right now while Kobe is still the top player, get him some guys and hope for the best.

Bynum IMO is still two or three years away from being good. (if you believe that he'll turn into a star) And by the time he does (if he does), Kobe will start to decline.

Salaries won't work, and if Lakers wouldn't trade Bynum for Kidd, then no they won't include him for Camby.

Bynum in a package would work.

But yeah you're right. Imagine if they had gotten Kidd. (they have made some dumb mistakes, lakers front office)

The offers for Camby been stupid. If we make a trade it should only be for JO of course we would add. And Nets not doing Bynum for Kidd was actually smart. I think Bynum will be of the hook. Kidd only has a few years left. And if you got Kidd you still be bottom 2-3 playoff teams in the West. Kobe/Kidd duo would not have gotten past the Suns/Spurs/Dallas/Rockets/Denver/Jazz ah w/e everyone get's the picture I am sure.
