I find it hard to believe that "Vikings Defensive Coordinator" didn't immediately get this guy's resume thrown into the "also ran" pile.

The coaching talent pool is just paper thin this year with legendary coaches like Cowher, Parcells and Vermeil getting out of the ranks.

I wouldn't hire a Vikings coordinator to wash my car. (No offense VF)

I think PA is being biased again. [IMG]

Tomlin is going to be a terrific HC. And, if you think about it, Vikings coordinators fare pretty well in the NFL as head coaches. The last three coordinators turned coaches from the Vikings? Dungy, Billick, and Linehan.

The only bright spot of the Vikings this year was Tomlin, and he was the only coach I liked on the staff (from what I know). Honestly, this is the cap on a series of horrible news for Minnesota sports...

Why? Are the Twins moving? Garnett getting suspended? The Gophers moving to Division 2?

Just a taste of the bad news from Minnesota sports:

<ul>[li]Liriano out for year, could never return as he was[/li][li]Sidney Ponson is suddenly worthy of a good contract from the Twins[/li][li]McHale reportedly offered his soul to try and get AI to Minnesota, but our contracts were so bad that even his soul wasn't good enough[/li][li]This just in...the Timberwolves will suck until 2010 (at least) assuming McFail doesn't trade away our draft picks after that or give some 5th rate player a guaranteed $15 mil/year[/li][li]Although the Wild are good, Gaborik can't stay healthy.[/li][li]The Twins, in order to have any chance of repeating last year, need to have another MVP season from Morneau, another batting champ in Mauer, career years from Punto and Cuddyer, and hope nobody hits the ball to left field (Rondell White will be the starting RF)[/li][li]The Vikings - where to start? Our hope is that the Atlanta Falcons WR coach can do the same magic with the Vikings that he did with Atlanta. ...oh wait, Altanta's WR corps underperform.[/li][li]I wouldn't be surprised if Childress decides that he will call the defensive plays as well. After being ranked in the bottom 10 of the league he'll proclaim that his system is a 'kick ass' system.[/li][li]Childress has insisted that he will continue to call plays in his 'kick ass' system.[/li][li]oh, the the Vikings are a horrible team right now, have scared away good prospects by treating people like Marcus Robinson like crap, have no good coaches now that Tomlin is gone, and are bleeding whatever talent we have[/li][/list]

I didn't feel like going into the Gophers...not enough time. [IMG]

Congratulations, Pittsburgh. You just found a guy who will likely keep you competitive for years to come.

Tomlin is my favorite new coach coming in this year. I think he is one of the most talented defensieve coordinators in the league. The Steelers will look much improved, and they are keeping Lebeau, who has those great zone blitzes

Feels good to hear thoughts outside of Pittsburgh about this guy. I'm pretty pumped to get some new, younger blood flowing. But it's a battle here. A lot of people aren't happy about Cowher retiring. Tomlin's going to take his lumps here, he's got BIG shoes to fill.

I feel confident that he can do that. And I like that VF is signing off on him. That's a good sign!
