I really like these international games they have each year. By chance we were in the section next to the largest Lithuanian contingent and they were having a great time. We went to the one last year (Efes Pilsen, Turkey) as well and it was the same fun vibe. The games themselves are hardly competitive affairs, but it's just fun to see the local contingent of that nationality come out and have fun and root their guys on.

It's hard to make judgements from such a lopsided affair, but here's a few anyhow [IMG]

Perovic - He got the start, and to riff on one of my past posts, no, he has NOT found the Fountain of Athleticism. He's not at all fast running up and down the court. His jump (such as it is) is slow, and he just seems to lack general physical coordination. I don't think it's from a lack of effort - he really seemed to be trying hard. But in terms of athleticism and skills (especially athleticism), the comparision between he and Wright is night and day. I just don't see how Nelson (or virtually any other NBA coach) would have any use for him at this time.

In the first half, once again, nobody could finish at the rim to save their lives. Harrington especially was just flailing around. The effort was there for sure and I'm wondering if he's just trying too hard to show off the hard work he put in this offseason.

As we should expect, without Baron or Hudson or even Monta running the show, the offense completely bogs down. I don't see that as a huge concern since Baron was the only one who played at all.

Sweet deal DTKennedy. I went to the LA Lithuanian Fair two weekends ago and they had a flyer up about this game. They love their basketball team. They had tie-dye ones with skeletons playing basketball in the Lithuanian jersey. Basketball is in their bone, or they just like the Greatful Dead and tie-dye stuff... No but Lithuanians are really awesome people. The girls tend to be quite attractive as well, at least in my opinion.
What do you think of the young guys like Belinelli and Wright? It must have been interesting to see Perovic start, though I guess his athleticism or lack there of will be a limitation on his production and effectiveness, from what you saw.

I was at the game too, had awesome seats (8th row) parallel to one of the hoops. DT, please tell me you stayed for the 4th quarter and saw that insane dunk by Brandan Wright. Good lord, it looked like Amare or Dwight, not many PFs in the league capable of that play but it was awesome to see, just filthy.

Were their fans any rowdy at all? I'm going to the Wizards game on Friday and they play against the Zalgiris Kaunas. Last year, I went to a Wizards/Mavs game, half the arena were Mavs fans and best of all I got the pleasure of sitting next to a group of Nowitzki fans with a Germany flag...:-/

Was that 7'5 guy any good for Zalgiris Kaunas?

The few times he touched the ball on the block I can't remember him missing. He didn't touch the ball that much though.
He was their starter and wasn't too bad, not suited to be chasing around Wright and POB all night though.

Thanks for the clip! Nasty dunk! I don't mean to sound overly critical like I usually do, but I wish he could have made that free throw! Dunks are really exciting, but if we lost by 1 point... well forget about the dunk. It's essentially how I viewed the Utah game where Baron posterized AK47. Yeah, yeah Baron threw one down over one of the best shotblocking forwards in the game, but we still lost because guys couldn't make free throws at a better % than Ray Charles shooting step back three pointers. It's embarassing to be this exciting of a team, only to foul up in the most boring, but important aspect of the game. Free throws!

It would've been great to pick Paul Milsap. Then we have AL at PF and Milsap backing him up. Brendan Wright could still go to D-league and he would be our future starter. Another great pick would've been Daniel Gibson as backup PG. That may have kept Monta at the SG position.

I think Brandan Wright is readier than we think (skillwise). He's just not ready to play small forward or shooting guard at the power forward position skillwise. [IMG] He's also not ready physically, but maybe it is possible he could do well despite his slight frame.

I bet getting Paul Milsap would be a losing proposition for Paul Milsap unless he develops a handle or an outside shot. We didn't even bother to keep Josh Powell who might have been a decent backup at PF. I mean he was pretty all right, wasn't he? He wasn't a star. He wasn't going to rock Ike Diogu in the post, but he was a better out of position rebounder and he could move quicker.

Definitely some cute Lithuanian chicks in the crowd [IMG]

Belinelli - I think he's a high quality nba shooter right now. His release is amazingly quick. He sees the court well and sets people up. He's also got a motor that doesn't quit. I heard he played all 48 in this game, and I seem to recall him doing it at least once in summer. So conditioning isn't a problem. I don't think he'll ever be able to play the 3, so it seems to me his best destiny is as a scoring 2 who can also be an effective distributor.

Wright - Skills and athleticism he has. NBA body he hasn't. Maybe not the biggest deal in a track-meet offense, but Boozer will toss him around like a rag doll. Hopefully he becomes addicted to protein shakes.

Maybe Belinelli can also play some point guard at duty?

I sure hope Brandan Wright can compete physically somehow. Maybe he'll be like a Kevin Garnett or Chris Bosh type body where he looks skinny, but can actually get position on somebody and finish at the rim. But then again we hoped Belinelli or Harrington would finish at the rack strong. I guess maybe it's also about explosiveness and having that coordination to finish a difficult inside shot as well as muscle mass to absorb or fight through the contact.
