Oct 16 - Desmond Mason started all 75 games he played with the Hornets last season, missing the final seven games after suffering a fractured right cheekbone in a game against Seattle.

"I'll go out and play solid basketball and do everything I can to put my bid in for that spot," Mason said. "After that, it's on the coach to make the decision he feels is going to help the team.

"That's what it's all about, putting a good chemistry out on the floor. That's how you win basketball games. If you look at a team like San Antonio, Manu (Ginobili) could start on any team in the NBA, and he comes off the bench and does it humbly." -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

It'll be a tough decision, choosing between Mason and Simmons. personally, I'd take Mason, and bring Simmons on the bench...for when Redd needs a rest. He could come in with pretty good shooting that'd be missed without Redd in the game.

It honestly doesn't matter who starts at small forward, both players will be splitting time anyway.

Think there's a chance at the use of small lineups alot...or is there too many bigs that deserve/need playing time on the team?

I don't see us playing much small ball this season. We have 3 guys at PF/C that need minutes in Bogut/Villanueva/Jianlian. Jianlian already creates a lot of matchup problems at PF with his speed as it is. We might throw Simmons in at PF once and a while but thats probably it.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was thinking Mason at PF actually, since Simmons is the better shooter...but that makes more sense, with Simmons being a bit bigger and a better rebounder.

Villanueva plays like a SF at times, too...so it'll be like playing smallball all the time with that team. Half the team is a bunch of matchup problems. I have a feeling this team is going to be interesting to watch this year, if everyone stays healthy.

Idk how I feel about Desmond starting. I am sure he has earned it, but I always enjoy seeing a spark like himself coming off the bench. Hopefully this year Simmons and CV can provide that spark so we don't dig ourselves into second quarter holes (like we did all of last year).
