In one of the most boneheaded and moronic moves, spanos has fired marty. I am not saying that firing him was a mistake, i am saying firing your head coach this late is a mistake. Parcells put dallas in a bad spot by quitting so late. Now with every good coach already having been interviewed or hired for a position, the chargers now need to replace the entire coaching staff. Look for them to miss the playoffs next season

I agree completly, stupid stupid move. The only one I could see them going for now is maybe Ron Rivera, possibly Singletary but other than those two there is literally nothing out there.

Yeah if your going to fire him then do it right away. They let go of 2 possible replacements in Cameron and Phillips.

No chance on Rivera IMO, he runs a 4-3, they play a 3-4

The timing was suspect. However, his entire coaching staff had already quit on them and joined other teams. AJ Smith was probably asking Wade Phillips, "Why couldn't you have just taken Marty with you?"

Whatever. Last year was Marty's best shot at a title as a head coach. Smith is aware of that as the rest of us are. Art Shell is available.

    My replacement prediction: Denny Green.

He likes the San Diego area (I believe he lives there), and could probably do some damage with that offense in place.

Do the Raiders have a head coach yet? I'd be curious to see what Marty could do with that mess...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>the final straw occurred yesterday when Schottenheimer wanted to interview his brother Kurt for the defensive coordinator position. Spanos and Smith did not approve, but Schottenheimer held firm in asserting that he had the right to hire his own staff.</div>
Was it a condition of Marty's contract that he could hire his own staff? Was A.J. Smith out of line?

The Chargers went 14-2 last season. One would think that they would be a little more cozy about their winning ways. A.J. Smith has no respect for Shottenheimer apparently, by giving all the credit to his assistant coaches that recently left the team. If I were Marty, I would be pissed too. The guy took the Kansas City Chiefs to the playoffs several times, and reached the AFC Championship Game with both Cleveland and Kansas City, and has the most wins of any active coach. A.J. should expect Marty to be successful, and give him much more respect than he has.

I still can't get over this. 14-2, and fired.

I find it hard to believe also. Unless a major miracle occurs, Denver should win the AFCW next year. :reallysick:

Herm is switching to a power running/ball control offense. I doubt KC will be in contention w/ their D.

Yea I know that I was just listing those two as the only ones I see who were actually qualified for an HC position.

But yea your right Rivera probably woulden't be a good fit.

Kurt Schottenheimer is terrible. Upon further review, trying to make him your defensive coordinator IS a firing offense. *shudder*

Steleers run a 3-4 but hired Tomlin who runs a 4-3.

LMAO! I heard the news after taking a shower and instantly made my day. I never been a huge fan of Marty and neither were my parents. My mom doesn't want Norv to leave SF since she's a 49ers fan. The possibility of Denny Green wouldn't be too far fetched.

The bad news is that they will miss the playoffs.
The bad news for Marty is that he is fired.
The good news for everyone else is that someone has the chance to take the crown of the AFC West, maybe Oakland?
The good news for me is that I can keep joking about the Chargers moving.
The good news for the Ravens is that they have a chance to win next season at San Diego where I'll be watching the game in Qualcomm.

If the Chargers can get any decent HC in there next season, they'll challenge for the division again. Even a good figure head to play caretaker might be enough. There's a lot of talent there and I can't imagine the coaching staff, whoever that may be, squandering it.
