MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Although Brett Favre plans to skip the Green Bay Packers' mandatory minicamp this weekend, he might not be excused by Packers coach Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy was not available for comment Tuesday, but team spokesman Jeff Blumb said that as far as McCarthy was concerned, "the camp is mandatory."

The Packers' three-day minicamp begins Friday, and Favre could face fines from the team if he fails to show up without being formally excused.

Favre told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald that because he is unable to practice while recovering from offseason ankle surgery, he is going to stay home in Mississippi -- where he'll apparently try his hand at party planning.

"They were going to have me sit out anyway," Favre said, in a story that appeared on the paper's Web site on Tuesday. "To be honest, we have (daughter) Brittany graduating in two weeks. Instead of going up there and not doing anything, I will be better off being at home because of graduation parties and banquets."

Favre said the move is not related to his frustration with the team's unwillingness to complete a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss.

"I am frustrated," Favre told the paper. "But being frustrated and not going are not related."

Favre spent Saturday grousing about the Packers' front office in a handful of interviews conducted at his charity golf tournament in Tunica, Miss. On Sunday, Fox Sports' Web site reported that Favre's agent requested a trade shortly after the Packers failed to land Moss during the NFL draft last month. Moss instead was traded from Oakland to New England.

Favre issued a statement through the team on Monday saying he didn't want to be traded.

"I was frustrated a couple weeks back when Randy Moss was traded to New England," Favre said. "I never wanted to be traded and I don't want to be traded. I want to be in Green Bay. I want to finish my career as a Packer. Sometimes when I get frustrated I let my emotions get the better of me."</div>

he is hurt though, he wouldn't even be able to take place in them, so i can kind of seeing him wanting to skip them.

But i think he's still frustrated, but apparently alot of planning is going on with his daughters Graduation and such. Still i think he should be there.

This was in talks months ago. Favre had his ankle surgery and was doubtful to attend mini camp. It's also not the first mini camp he has missed. In fact last year was the first time in a long time that he actually even attended one. So you have nothing to be concerned about. Brett Favre will be the Green Bay Packers Quarterback and he wants to be and they want him to be.

If Brett Favre wanted out of Green Bay he is not afraid to tell the media exactly how he feels.. He said himself this has nothing to do with him wanting out of Green Bay. He wants to and will be a Packer.

I would imagine those were excused absences in the past though right?

Yes. Sherman excused Favre from mini-camp many times.

I'm guessing that McCarthy will ultimately excuse Favre this time, too. Every story I see says that McCarthy couldn't be reached for comment. Once he actually picks up his phone, I'm guessing the whole thing will blow over.

You know Favre says a lot of stupid things and saying I'm going to miss mini camp because my daughter graduates a few days later is pretty high on the list but at least he is indeed righting a wrong. If Favre ever asks for "Roger Clemens" like treatment then I think it would be time to trade him. The only way this team is going to get better is to develop chemistry and to do that, they need to practice like a team. Especially the Offense. I?m pretty happy that Mike McCarthy is holding strong with Favre and not letting his ego get in the way.

I think its pretty cool too, Sherman let him get away with A LOT. I think this is truly for his benefit, with McCarthy being a little tougher on him.
