Hardaway did one thing well last night...he hit three's. A year older than Houston, same knee surgery.

It was interesting hearing Mark(?) talk about how Penny used to be like Wade and Lebron are today. I remember those days like they were yesterday, Penny was crazy good.
On the other hand, I've never liked Houston, but he could prolly help our perimeter shooting. But definitely not our perimeter defense. In fact, he'd surely make it worse.
I'd rather have Hite, he can shoot well, has athleticism to run, and he might actually be able to stay with his man on defense.

I read that Penny was blaming the Knicks medical staff for not reading how bad his knee was, that whole orginaztion is screwed up.

QUOTE (ghoti)

Houston might be able to contribute, but Penny is far from being "back".

I don't know man, he looked pretty damn impressive last night. For a guy with long of a break from the game, he's coming around slowly. It's that veteran saavy that just stands out.

Yeah I'd rather have Hite, too. He won't be that super threat from 3, but he can shoot the ball and would be an upgrade over Eddie Gil.

QUOTE (ghoti)

Houston might be able to contribute, but Penny is far from being "back".

Penny scored 16 points in limited minutes in an NBA game, going 4 for 4 beyond the arc and making several clutch plays. If Allan Houston can do that, that is all I ask.

He is not available.

It sends the message that management is not giving up and might give everyone a nice mental boost.

"Did you know the Nets traded for him and the deal fell through at the last minute?"

Never knew that. What year was this? Who were the Nets going to give up?

The Nets would have received Damon Stoudamire and Walt Williams, who would then have been packaged with Kevin Edwards and the Nets' 1998 No. 1 draft pick and sent to Orlando for Hardaway.
The idea of the Nets serving as intermediary in a trade involving the Magic and the Raptors arose this morning. By this afternoon, Nets' officials thought they had a deal. But as word of the proposed trade circulated around the league, other teams called and both Orlando and Toronto pulled back, waiting to see what else might be available.
What would have been a dream for the Nets was not as inviting a prospect for Hardaway, who told The Associated Press today: ''I really don't want to play in New Jersey. I don't want to go somewhere where I don't want to be.'' He added that Calipari's reputation for volatility would be a problem ''with any player.''
Hardaway also said that he expected to be traded soon, but according to Calipari and several other league executives, there now appears to be little chance that he will come to the Nets.

For the record, the Nets traded Edwards and their 1998 first round pick (which became Matt Harpring) to Orlando anyway.
They also included David Benoit and Yinka Dare and received Rony Seikaly and Brian Evans from the Magic.

cba's ralph holmes is a shooter who can defend and has already proven himself to bea winner...twice a champion and all-star mvp plus an all-league defensive team selection...led the league in 3-pt shooting %tage last yr...

He could only score many points against the Nets only. the old guys could Only torch the Nets. Just see Payton, Mourning...etc.
