Wow have you guys noticed the drop off from last year? Even before the rush into the playoffs, when the W's were floundering with Murphy, Foyle, Dunleavy, there was more discussion than now. What's up? Have people moved on?

Yeah, I think a lot of people bagged it during the changeover to S2. Personally I like the old site a lot better from a usability standpoint. For one thing, I can't use this site on Safari, which also means it doesn't work on my iPhone. Also I just found the old site to be less cluttered and faster-loading, and it had more viewing options (like turning off sig images). Well, I'm giving this site a chance hoping they'll improve things over time. But for now it's not the same...posts are few and far between.

Yeah I think we lost some regular posters after the merge. I haven't posted nearly as much because I've been busy as hell since school started, dunno about the other guys.

Don't worry guys we are working hard behind the scenes to improve the message board area of the site. Building it from scratch was good in theory, but it's taken away from developing other features and we decided it's better to just use a finished product people are familiar with and has the bells and whistles we all want.

We're also going to use the Sportsticker a lot more effectively than it's being used now. I know it's cluttered the forum area and overwhelm a gamethread.

Once the message board is up we can concentrate on building out the other features to compliment it.

I know some of the regulars have been busy with school and work, and also the slow start makes it hard to talk about. Pointing out the same issues over and over again can get taxing.

There's no official date to implement the new message board and I don't want to set up any expectations and not deliver on them. We're aiming for XMas time or early 2008. Once we get further along in the design I'll post some screen shots. Mel is working on the design and will take into account a lot of the issues Hirez brought up along with other ones throughout the site.

Mel is pro-Apple so I'm sure you'll be able to use your iPhone again and Safari Hirez!

Turning images off will definitely be included so users can view a lite version of the site.

QUOTE (shapecity)

I know some of the regulars have been busy with school and work, and also the slow start makes it hard to talk about. Pointing out the same issues over and over again can get taxing.

I learned as you get older, you get a lot more busy. Heck. After college and the job you start out doing, it gets a lot more busy. It's like the older you get the more responsbility you have in job, raising a family, and paying attention to your wife so she doesn't leave you. It makes it so posts have to get shorter. LOL (but not in my case).

Shape was right to point out that a lot of this year's team was similar to how last year's team struggled. It made it practically unwatchable because it was reminiscent of Monty Ball in reverse. Plus, every poster from the old JBB board knows how my posts can get all "ranty" ad-nauseum. But I can't help it because I love the Warriors, but I also love the kind of basketball that wins rings (and ours ain't that kind yet until they can hit free throws, score inside with big men in the post, and become better defenders and rebounders). I know it sounds negative, but the Warriors are trying to make positives strides with their recent drafts. They're just really young and still overly dependent on Baron Davis having to do something when there are no guys like Sjax. So my usual complaints starts with how we're basically the same team with Dun and Murphy without switching the lineups around. Without Sjax (who was probably our 2nd best player, even when we had Jrich) we really suck.

I still think without Sjax we're as bad as the beginning of last year. For instance, having Dun and Murph play PF and C, it was the same problem with playing Buke and Pietrus at SF/PF. It was our inability to defend at two position spots and reliably play a zone defense type of scheme. Then there's the fact we had a crappy shooting % from the field and at the foul line just like this year. I'm sorry but Azu and Pietrus to me doesn't do jack for us at SF,PF when trying to rebound or cover zone. Who moves the ball around? We didn't have guys moving the ball around to set people up for high % shots and Baron was back to chucking. When Barnes did his best Sjax impression in that clippers game he was playing attrocious D. But he was still the hero because he got the ball moving. He was able to force more attention on the bigs inside and that affected how defenders play us.Nobody else really drove and kick and that is what we need in our game.

When we have a chucking, over-dribbling, exhausted Baron, a soft Biedrins, no reliable or playable backup point guards or centers, some blackhole scorers that gets big points in losing games (like Troy Murphy or Dunleavy), and terrible perimeter defenders too slow or small to do anything, of course we stand a big chance of losing. It becomes 1 on 5 with no defense from two important positions needed to play a reliable zone defense. This hurts even more if we don't rebound or take a chance on the big guys that can get us rebounds because we have to play defense twice or can't get as many second chance shots on goal as the other team.

I also noticed the Warriors played a lot better with Ellis on a shorter leash and no Pietrus at power forward nonsense. To me the game got better when guys started playing bigger, more efficiently, and we got better defensively and moving the ball around. It's a chemistry thing and playing guys at more natural positions... or forcing the other team to play small like us where they cannot simply compete in setting the tempo.

But now that we got Sjax all is a lot better than it used to be and you knew he was coming back. Just like how I know Shape/Mel is on top of the "displeasure with the new forums situation". They know we like our vbulletin features and how it was competitive against many of the features that other warrior forums didn't have. They remember what turned us away from espn and other sites and what made the jbb warrior forum pretty popular in the first place. So I know the answer is coming soon.

I can see a lot of the s2 features for fantasy gaming and gambling with user points might be fun. Maybe there also might be some resources to draw upon like how hoopshype, basketball reference, nbadraft, and draft express have on their sites. But from my standpoint as a poster, I just want to discuss basketball and take in all points of views. Find out what the consensus is and all that stuff. I really like what true basketball fans have to say rather than guys like Tim Kawakami and Skip Bayless put out there to generate controversy. I mean I know some fans may stretch, but Tim Kawakami says it like he believes it like "Adam Morrison, think of him as a hairier version of Chris Mullin" or "Channing Frye: Tim Duncan without the greatness". I can't find the actual source of that one article, but trust me he said it. It's probably in one of the older JBB threads, but that guy's judgement on nba talent is pretty whack. Okay, but I have those faults too as I thought Sheldon Williams that would be decent, Al Jefferson might ruin his career with weight problems, and that Adam Morrison wouldn't suck on offense like he did. But Channing Frye as a Tim Duncan without the greatness? If there's a Tim Duncan without the greatness then he's a 6'11 guy who sucks and is boring to watch. C'mon now. I'm glad the Knicks took him first, I wanted Diogu or Granger (and at the time possibly Green but he's pretty bad on defense and doesn't really perform consistently). So I'm not good either, but I guess it's okay to be wrong on guessing how they'll be in the nba ...And there I went off on a tangent again. Hoorah! Okay, I gotta stop!

Anyway thanks Shape, Mel and the other admins! Can't wait!

I still can't stand the style of this forum, which is why I haven't been visiting.

I know the roster of the team, stats, etc. I don't go to a forum to find that stuff out, I go to Yahoo. I go to forums to talk about bball. I hate clutter and think KISS (keep it simple stupid) is what should be kept in mind. Minimalist sites FTW!

So until the forum improves a lot, I'll just be another statistic...

For me it is a combination of a promotion at work, getting married and only having 1 tv (you have to watch some games on tivo delay and avoid anything Warriors until you finish), and honestly... not liking the new format over here. But it's starting to grow on me.

    Shape,

I posted the following on the link provided in an earlier post:

"First, I type in my user name and password and hit enter and it just sits there. It doesn't log me in. Instead I have to mouse over and hit another button to log in.

Second, the type size, colors, menus and banners are too helter skelter. It's not a clean look and there is wasted space. The message text font is too small. All of the quotes and replies should be of uniform text and text should be bigger than it currently is. One should be able to see the quote easily and the reply easily and the reply portion should be easy to pick out and read. Also, we should be able to see how our post is going to look in Preview. It's should be WYSIWYG instead of just text. The emoticons aren't that easy to use.

Furthermore, I don't like the wasted space on the sides. It's just two black vertical bands giving for a claustrophobic feeling in the message box. I don't like the Save post button. It should be Submit post or something to that effect.

When I log on using my Mac notebook instead of Windows PC, then all of the features aren't available to me. It's very inconsistent. I hope it gets fixed soon because we have been losing our old posters for one reason or another."

Great to hear from you CR2 and everyone else. I just thought there was a great intensity and vibe on JBB and we lost it. I'm not blaming the administrators and I'm not sure what I miss but its not there yet. I hope the new version will be better. In the meantime, I'll hang in there.

CR2, yeah as you get older (I'm 44) the responsibilities increase but if you get the right wife, the payoff is more than worth it. You just have to be a better time manager.

Thanks for the feedback bro. I'm pretty sure integrating with the messageboard software we're going to use will address every single one of those problems.

There's been a lot of progress made the last few days so I think we should meet that deadline I posted above. I'll see how much we can get done over Thanksgiving break and possibly get some early screenshots to give you guys an idea of how it will look.

I kind of agree with AF about some of the clutter. It's not like the player roster changes on a daily basis like... let's say... box scores or news headlines. We can keep those important non-forum features in there as they can be useful info look-up to support the forum. But if we want to have non-forum type features I think they should be in separate sections away from the forum page as to reduce the perceived clutter.

I don't think any of the guys here are trying to hurt feelings of the web developers, it's just that if the idea of an all-around sports site is going to sell, it's got to do the things that espn doesn't do well like listen to their audience, organize their sports sections better so they find the info they want and don't see the info they don't even care about, and also produce a message board that doesn't irritate on each and every post.

If it's a good product, one person will tell two of their friends, and those two friends will tell a few of their friends and so forth... I mean that same viral principle can go in reverse though as many of us were from espn and we just said the guys at espn don't even care. But I'm sure S2 is not espn so it has a good chance to offer something good for those online users who want to get info and be able to chat without stress.

That's exactly how we feel and the direction we're moving towards. Great minds think alike. I think were going to use more tabs in the new design. So intead of smushing the roster info, standings like we have now, there will be easy tabs to click on to view that information and reference it quickly.
