"They are who we thought they were." -Dennis Green

First of all, I would like to congratulate the Patriots for winning last night. They played (or got played) a great game and was definetely wasn't expected by many, even me. I'm reading many headlines today about the fact that the Ravens got jobbed last night by the officials. First of all, I did not see the game other than the the last two minutes of the game because I had class that night. But as I'm reading at there comments about the game, I'm thinking to myself, "Tell me when the Ravens haven't gotten screwed over by the officials. Or better yet, when has that happened in favor of the Patriots?"

I never believed they were going to go 16-0. You can quote me on that, look at all my comments during the season, or even spyed (like the Patriots did?) me I never said anything about them. Quite frankly, I haven't seen many of their games and nothing about their running game nor their defense was special to make me come to that conclusion. I do believe that they were a great team and why wouldn't they be since they are loaded with stars on the offense and a solid group of guys on defense. I haven't been paying attension to the NFL as much as I should have because news regarding players like Michael Vick, Charger's offensive woes, and the repetitveness of the Patriots going undefeated is desensitizing to me as a football fan.

However, in the wake of Philly's near AMAZING UPSET made me believe that they are exposed of what they were. But when I thought about it, it wasn't anything special other than having an offense and stopping their passing game. But that wasn't enough to make me believe that the Patriots are "the best" still. They still exerted that aura that they were too good for any other team. Almost cocky at times because they always ran up the scoreboard and even though they survived a scare, it wasn't enough to punish for what they have done.

After the loss to the Chargers, I was willing to say that the season was over the Ravens which was true and that the only hope was for beating the Dolphins to avoid losing to "arguably the worst team" which is on pace for going 0-16. Thus, finishing with a record of 5-11 because of the harsh schedule coming up with New England, Indianapolis, Seattle, Miami, and Pittsburgh. But there was the motivation to be the one to stop the best team. It's a rare opportunity which makes me somewhat excited until the news of Sean Taylor's passing away. I was sad...

I knew that since the Colts lost to them early, and watching the way they played the Jaguars WITHOUT Marvin Harrison, I knew they would be the best team to stop them.

Why? They know the Patriots the most, they are able to match them score for score, and the defense is, I believe, better than last year. I know they are fighting for that #2 seed to avoid playing the Patriots while having the extra week to get healthy.

NOW THE PART YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR WHERE I TALK ABOUT MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME!!!

It's clear that the Ravens were predicted to have like... less than 1% chance to beat them. All signs pointed to a game where they would have their way with our defense and Kyle Boller will have to play the worst game in his career. I was even afraid to watch the game because of what I was prepared to hear the next day whether at school or on ESPN.

It wasn't what I thought. In fact, from what I've heard, the Ravens were giving it to them. They played smash mouth football and McGahee ran the ball up (or was it down?) their throats and gave them what they deserved. Playcalling was risky but payed off. It was like someone possessed Billick or something. The offensive line played amazing as one whole group. The defense had their way with them also where Chris McAlister, who came back from an injury, silenced Randy Moss only to have 4 catches. Tom Brady had an okay game but must have been really frustrated by the way the Raven's played defense. We managed to take the lead for almost 3 quarters and exposed their linebackers of their old age. Someone asked me what did I think about Adalius Thomas. Who? AD was no where to be found. He was just another player on the field, better yet, another player negated by Ogden at his best. I'm thinking to myself, if this is how they play when they are at their best against the Patriots, shouldn't we be undefeated?

But the bad news poured in. The Ravens had to play against 2 other groups. The officials and themselves. Being a team with players who have short tempers, we were basically shooting outselves in the foot. Especially when Bart Scott was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for picking up the flag and throwing it. Not only that, there were some questionable calls out there late in the 4th. I'm not sure which but it regarding the holding penalty against Jermaine Winborne and another one against the Patriots offense during that game winning drive.

It's hard for me to believe such allegations towards the Patriots for being favored by the referees but it seems that every time Dale or bAgives another example of expections or rules that favor something the Patriots done (i.e tuck rule), it's hard for me to deny it because it's true (or at least I think so) and they have alot of credibility behind them and their arguements.

I do give the Patriots credit for winning. After all, if it was any other team, I would congratulate them also. But I am so proud of the Ravens, I'm sort of disappointed that I missed that game. I would alsotake this time to say, "RAY LEWIS FOR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!!" or at least the pro bowl because he deserves it. Not because he was so emotional before, during, and after the game, but because of what he was meant for the Ravens this season and his whole career as a Raven. ALSO, he has the stats to back him up. Brian Billick should get some credit because he let the offense play more aggressive which showed because of the Derrick Mason TD pass which would have never happened if they kicked a FG.

I also have some beef with the referees but "blaming refs, sour grapes." I could go on and on about them and how they are against the Ravens but I'll leave it at that.

On a further note, if the Patriots were say, 14-0, and he had the opportunity to win the last two games or rest some of his starters for the playoffs, I TRULY BELIEVE that he will chase perfection in expense of his player's health just because it's my gut feeling. He won't do what Tony Dungy did by resting starters. And when he does, he will retire at the end of the season when the Colts or Cowboys win. He's building up so much bad karma that it will eventually hit back come playoff time and his integrity and the Patriots integrity will be shot due to failing to meet expectations during the playoffs even if they do lose to a team like the Jaguars or Browns (NOT THE CHARGERS).

Thank you for reading this huge post but I just needed to vent out.

that PA interference call was crap. I couldn;t believe it. Well I hope the Giants can take cae of them or atleast teh Steelers. Overtall though resting players is almost always bad news. Lets get real, you mess up the players rhythm, I wouldn;t have it any other way from Belicheck.

How come there wasn't a huge post after the Patriots beat the refs and the Colts?

Because the Patriots DB made contact with the Colts WR. It was actually a good call. The refs can't let everything slip. People will get suspicious.

For those who are still up in arms about the holding call on the Ravens DB against Ben Watson...have you seen a replay?

I am a Patriots fan, but the arm around Watson is blatant. Also, there is contact from the saftey coming over the top that would constitute Defensive Pass Interference which went uncalled and is a more severe penalty.

Also, please watch a replay of Derek Mason's tackle on the Patriots DB on the hail mary pass at the end of the game. The Ravens blew the game, end of story.

One thing I would advocate, that would have caused the Patriots to lose, is allowing the play to continue after an offensive false start. When the defense jumps, the offense gets a free play unless the QB is about to get murdered. Why isn't that the case when the offense jumps and the defense makes the stop?
