Horford hit with one-game suspension for flagrant foul on Ford

QUOTE

NEW YORK -- Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford was suspended for one game by the NBA on Thursday for a flagrant foul against Toronto's T.J. Ford.
Ford was injured when Horford struck him on the head and knocked him down as Ford was trying to score on a breakaway with 1:32 left in the game Tuesday night. Horford, ejected for a flagrant foul penalty two, said he was trying to block Ford's shot.
Ford was released from an Atlanta hospital Wednesday and flew home to Toronto. Ford spent the night in Piedmont Hospital for observation and tests.
Horford, for his part, was unable to shake the incident from his mind, and visited Ford for several hours at the hospital Tuesday night. But it was Ford who made Horford feel better.
"T.J. was real cool," Horford said Wednesday afternoon, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, after the Hawks wrapped up a day of treatment and individual workouts at Philips Arena. "Thank God he's doing better and he went home and everything. We spent some good time together and we just talked about the game and a lot of other stuff. He told me that he understood I didn't do it intentionally or anything like that. It was a really good visit."
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said the Hawks contacted the Raptors to express remorse about the incident.

No hard feelings between the two, which is good. Horford sat with Ford for 2 hours and talked. For a rookie, is must be scary when something like that happens, but we know he is a good kid.

Yeah, he'll be more careful next time.
But I'm glad he went to check out Ford at the hospital.

Thats horrible. Stern/Jackson needs to get his head out of his ass. That foul happens all the time in the NBA with no flagrant called most of the time. No need for a suspension here.
I can only imagine the suspension they give Tyrus if they're being this liberal on handing out games in suspensions, 10 games for Tyrus?

If they gave Horford a suspension for that, how did Chauncey not get suspended at all for injuring RJ? That's complete bullshit.
Not to mention Horford made a great move, and went to talk to TJ and apologize for the injury.
It was an accident that TJ got injured, Horford really didn't mean to injure the kid.
I agree with BG7, these NBA executives need to check themselves.

Consistency is the key. You could make a case for or against a suspension and I could agree with either, but then you need to apply that standard league-wide. That's the biggest problem I've had with Stu Jackson/David Stern over the years.

Terrible decision to suspend Horford. You could tell he genuinely felt bad about the situation. He doesn't deserve the suspension at all.

That was great, post of the month!
I really do think that the suspension was fine, because he wasn't docked with 10 games or something. It was 1 game to let him know, he can't do that. I don't hate the guy, and I'm sure the Raptors don't either. While he does fell sorry, that doesn't mean that nothing should happen. I'm sure Todd Bertuzzi felt bad after punching Steve Moore, but he cause a serious injury, and was suspended for the season.
Again, I must agree with the people who are talking about consistency because for rules to work, and players to abide by them, it is needed.

Does TJ's head look like a basketball? Great defensive play Horford (sarcasm). Horford has more to lose by not going to visit TJ in the hospital, like ROY. He only got a game, relax. That's totally fair right, Horford gets a one-game suspension and TJ misses close or more than a month playing for the Raptors on a almost career ending injury. Fair? You guys don't even understand fair. Unbelievable. One game for god's sake, ONE GAME and you're bawling out crime. It's more unfair to the Raptors and TJ if you didn't notice. Tsk, tsk!!!!!!!!!!!! The nerve. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!
