Very entertaining game last night, but all game long I had a bad feeling about the outcome and Baron Davis confirmed my gut feeling by hitting a step back three to ice the game. Tremendoud and gutsy shot by Baron.

The Lakers didn't play well in the 1st quarter, but took a commanding 11 point lead. They actually led by 13 at one point before the Warriors chipped away at the defecit and eventually pulled out a clutch victory. I knew the Lakers wouldn't be able to keep the lead because of the way they were playing last night. Kobe Bryant was horrendous last night forcing shots from tough angles on the perimeter. Stephen Jackson did a great job on him by staying in front, not falling for the head fakes and being physical with Kobe.

Even though Kobe wasn't playing well the Lakers had several chances to win this game and each chance was blown by that guy again, Lamar Odom. The final two plays of the game sum up his career. I hate to harp on it, but Lamar Odom does not belong in a Laker uniform. He had the oppotunity to cut the lead to 1 point by making a free throw. The Warriors are not a good free throw team and even if they make both the Lakers would have had enough time to run a play and try to send the game into OT.

Lamar Odom instead shoots a brick, but wait the loose ball lands right in his hands, but instead of securing the ball and calling timeout with plenty of time left, he gets stripped by Monta Ellis and the game ends. Everyone in the room watching the game was screaming, call timeout call timeout.

How can Odom not be aware of the situation as the number 2 option on this team? He's shown time and time again he cracks under duress. He is not a championship caliber player.

But let's also go back to the Lakers possession before Odom's failed attempt at a 3 point play. The Lakers had subbed Kobe out and put Ariza in the game. Kobe injured himself on a previous play so the Lakers wanted to sub him out for offensive, defensive switches. Lamar Odom became the go to guy with Kobe on the bench. With Kobe on the bench Lamar pounded the ball, drove LEFT, and every Warrior saw it coming and Odom fumbled the ball leading to a turnover. He couldn't even get a shot off to tie the game. I'm still trying to figure out why he didn't call timeout and get Kobe back in the game. Again unaware of the situation.

Luke Walton is another lost soul on the court the last few games for the Lakers. His decision making was pathetic last night and his defense was a liability once again. Walton was telegraphing his passes and trying to make highlight plays instead of working for high percentage shots against a smaller defender. He kept trying to lob the ball or float passes and they were getting stolen left and right. Walton missed wide open looks Kobe was setting him up with and couldn't finish from point blank with Baron Davis defending him in the post.

Speaking of Baron Davis, once he picked up his 5th foul the Lakers stopped going at him. Baron was caught several times on the defensive switch left alone to defend Odom, Luke, or Bynum and the Lakers couldn't get the ball to their bigger player or those bigger players wouldn't post him up.

Trevor Ariza only played 3 minutes in this game. Isn't this the type of team he should get at least 20 minutes against? Ironically, prior to the game Jeannie Buss was on the pre-game radio show and said this is a big game for Ariza tonight.

Bynum was brilliant last night and Fisher was solid and kept his teammates under control. Bynum needed A LOT more touches than he had. He only had 10 FGAs and most of them came off misses from his teammates. The Warriors had no answer for him on the inside, yet the Lakers didn't take advantage of it.

    Frustrating loss all around.

QUOTE

Odom cost the Lakers with a clumsy effort. He had the ball knocked away on a half-hearted drive, recovered it and hoisted an off-balance shot with 39.1 seconds left. It missed badly, glancing awkwardly off the backboard.

The Warriors almost let the Lakers back into it when Odom made a layup and was fouled by Al Harrington with 6.1 left. The Warriors had a 108-106 lead at the time.

Odom missed the free throw and appeared to have a chance at the rebound, but Monta Ellis plucked the ball from Odom's fingertips and threw it down to Davis at the other end.

"I had it," Odom said. "Monta Ellis -- Speedy Gonzales -- was quick on that."

W's stole this game. Baron was insane at the end, which is no surprise considering a) he was well rested; hes actually been playing 35 mpg the last two or three games plus had a huge rest due to foul trouble last night, [IMG] the game is on national TV and Baron is a whore for the big stage, c) Derek Fisher was guarding him, and actually doing pretty well but when Baron pulls up for a shot and gets his legs under him Fish can't even get a hand in his face. If you notice just before Baron hit that big three Fish stopped his penetration, which is why Baron took his big 180 jump and nailed the 3. d) Baron will always try to show up Kobe and, again, Baron is a whore for that type of stuff, all of his shots go in when hes really, really determined to prove how good he is, he and Kobe got in a little tiff last game plus you know Baron wants all of LA hanging off his sack like Kobe has.

Refs sucked on both ends but the W's made a ton of stupid mistakes. They fixed that up toward hte end while the Lakers started clanking shots and turning the ball over. Barnes had a cheapshot in there and I bet he'll get suspended for 1 game for that, somehow no one noticed when he nailed Turiaf.

Hilarious play of the night when Farmar or Sasha (can't remember which) threw the ball off of Matt Barne's face and started the W's break.

Wasn't it Odom who threw the ball off of Barnes face? I thought it was, because I cursed him out while working out. Stupid sack of shit.

I thought Fisher played rather bad, Shape. He had a key turnover in the 4th quarter and seemed to force some shots. The play that really upset me about him was when he drove by his man, Bynum, and Bynum's man and threw a lazy lob up to Bynum that was picked up. It seems the only way people try to get Bynum touches is lobbing it up there for him. Whenever he has perfect position in the post to back down, they swing the ball around the perimeter. I'll never understand why we don't feed the beast.

Here's how it went when I was watching the end of the game:

Odom gets the ball. I yell "turnover!". Then, what happens? Turnover.

Baron has it. He's up at the top of the key with it. I get this feeling, like something amazing is gonna happen. What happens? He takes an off-balance shot, that looks like a brick...and it rattles in. That shit was like...WOW.

    GREAT game. Really entertaining.

That's pacific division basketball for you. They have the two most exciting teams in the league in the Suns and W's, Lakers are really fun to watch too with Kobe, Bynum, and their numerous quality role players(as long as it isn't against your favorite team). Suns and Warriors are first and second in the league in team ppg and the Lakers are fourth (0.1 behind the Nuggets). Even the Kings and Clips have entertaining teams, its always fun to watch Kevin Martin, Ron Artest, Kaman, Maggette, Al Thornton, etc. and especially Brand when he's healthy. This may be the most competitive division in the league, even if the Kings and Clips are behind the other 3 they're both tough teams who have more talent than their record indicates.

I'm still fuming that Bynum only had a few designed plays for him. It really, really pisses me off. There is no reason why he shouldn't have had 10 more shots and at least 10 more points against the Warriors. They can't contain him. Fisher really needs to be smarter at distributing the ball and get the ball into Bynum!

    Same with Kobe and Lamar.

I just saw this in highlights, bit slow over here in the uk i know, I haven't been posting much since justbball came to sports two but I just wanted to vent my anger at how crap Odom is what a complete oaf. I can't remember the play exactly or who was guarding him must of been Jackson or someone but he was better off trying to make space for a three rather then drvie and fumble. Here's the bottom line, LA need a second option whether it means Odom is shipped out or not.

As I was watching this game, those GS JBB people came to mind when I kept seeing some of the terrible shots Fish took. We should have been a tad more judicious with the ball.
