He just said that the league might have a problem with KVH being traded, coming to NJ for a physical, and retiring. They'd want to see him playing the whole season out. He also said that they'll "look closely" at this, and that it "violates the spirit" of trading. Swear to God, if this trade doesn't go through because of the league FO, I'm going to f***ing walk down to David Stern's office and kick his ass. Also, it'd be bullshit that they choose to take a look at this, and completely ignore Mckie in the bullshit Gasol trade. That'd be an "are you f***ing kidding me??" moment.

That's what McKie is doing - he's going to act as a player coach for them now.
Sheridan doesn't know shit. Thorn said last night he thought it could be a problem, which I assume means that KVH has his own concerns about time. And by the way, the inclusion of KVH and McKie DOES violate the spirit of the trading rules, but the NBA will have a hard time voiding one while permitting another.
I don't see the big deal, if they decide that KVH needs to stay on the Nets roster, just keep him on the IR all year and go about your business.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Universe @ Feb 18 2008, 01:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>KVH should just play. We should give him like 30 minutes a night just to kick them in the face.</div> you mean the league figuratively, or the other team literally?
This is what happens when matching contracts becomes such an issue... And Sheridan is an idiot - much like virtually everyone that appears on First Take.
If Stern is going to have an issue with this, just put KVH on the IR. That way he's still part of the roster but never has to do anything. That's not against the rules last I knew. And as far as McKie, I do believe that's what the Grizz did with McKie. From my understanding, he went to Memphis, passed a physical, put on a jersey, and that's all. And that's all KVH has to do. Pass his physical and then go to the IR, unless he really wants to play.
Im still pissed over the whole George and Stackhouse deal-if they didnt like the ethics, then change during the offseason. NOT the middle of a season where more atrocious and more unethical deals have taken place before this one.

Well, I don't really blame Stern. It is circumventing the spirit of the rules to some extent. I still can't believe they can't just get George to sign on. That guy's going to be one really unpopular dude for the rest of the year. I don't even understand his logic when it comes to rejecting the trade.

Mckie was traded under the same exact situation. Other teams have traded players only to waive them and the player goes back to original team. there's is absolutely no reason why stern or the NBA should be blocking any of these scenarios. If they don't like it then change the freakin rules after the season.
Van Horn already agreed to the trade, he gave Cuban and Thorn his blessing , he's only doing this for the Mavs and Nets becasuse he has good relationships with both teams management
But doesn't McKie travel with the team and sit on the bench for the games? He's basically doing exactly what he was doing in Philly. He also wants to play. He played last season and would be happy to spot some minutes. KVH doesn't want to play, didn't play last year, and doesn't want to leave home at all. The two situations are completely different, but KVH certainly shouldn't have to do any MORE than McKie.
