Could the Mavericks, who have a high chance of coming #8 in the West end up beating #1 in the West, a complete reverse of last year?

    would definately be interesting

The west is so tightly packed this year that anyone beating anyone wouldn't surprise me. There's only what, 5 games separating the 1-8 seeds so there shouldn't really be any huge favorites.

I don't see the Mavs being the 8th seed. It'll probably be between the Warriors or the Nuggets. And even then, none of those team will be able to beat the Spurs or the Lakers, who will most likely end up being the #1 seed. Or at least in my opinion. But Run BJM is right. If an upset were to happen, I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if it happened this season. Practically playoff team in the West has the potential to be a top seed in any "normal" circumstance

The Mavericks always struggled against the Warriors, that wasn't just about a 1-8 matchup.

Exactly. A Kobe or Duncan led team would never be caught sleeping in the first round. Lucky for those teams their stars will actually step up.

Well Kobe wasn't a one seed. I'm sure most people looked at them like underdogs.

Damn, if the standings stay the way they are as is I'll be licking my chops as a W's fan. I would be ecstatic if we got the Rockets in the first round. We pretty much devour any team without an inside presence and we have excellent matchups in that series; who on their team will stop Baron or Monta?, we got Jack, Pietrus and a slew of others to put on T-Mac, Biedrins would be the best big man in the series. Not to mention if you give Nellie seven games to figure out mismatch and exploit the weak players its going to be extremely difficult to beat the W's without a dominant scoring big man.

Oh and lets not forget what happened last time McGrady and Baron met in the playoffs. Charlotte Hornets vs. Orlando Magic back in like 02 or 03. First round best-of-five series. T-Mac was talking in the media saying that he was the best player in the series and that they would win. Baron threw down two consecutive triple doubles to close out the series. T-Mac is a choker in the first round and Baron always steps up.
