    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE ('ESPN')</div><div class='quotemain'>Joe Flacco (26 starts, 63.4 percent completion rate)

The numbers that Flacco put up at Division I-AA Delaware are quite good. Completing 63.4 percent of passes is impressive, even against lesser competition. The problem is that Flacco ended up at Delaware in the first place, which is the same reason why he started only 26 games.

Flacco initially went to Pittsburgh. He redshirted his freshman year, and was unable to beat out Tyler Palko for the starting job after Dave Wannstedt arrived as head coach the following year. Palko went undrafted last year. If Flacco is as good as scouts believe he is, why didn't Wannstedt see that he was better than Palko? Wannstedt may not be the best coach in college football, but it is hard to believe he was that wrong...</div>

This strikes me as funny. Dave Wannstedt, the guy who insisted on starting Noodle Arm for so painfully long, is working his superior quarterback evaluations over in Pittsburgh it seems. How much of Joe Flacco's development was stunted while under the leaky umbrella of the Wanny One?

Flacco was not a mature QB when he was at Pitt....that was never more obvious than when he took his helmet and went home after not being named the starter....I think thats a major flaw in the kids charachter....If im a scout, i have to wonder about a guy that fled the state rather than compete with another QB, especially when he was so much more physically gifted....of the top 5 QBs in this years draft, I think hes the most likely to bust out but continue to get chances because of his arm

While Flacco may be a bit flaco, I also believe that Wanny should have a restraining order placed on him - to not come within 10 feet of any quarterback decisions for his team.

Maybe he just realized how stubborn Wanny is.

Dwelling on vague intangibles is pointless, teams that need a last first round/second round QB need to draft him and that's pretty much it.

As any Bears or phins fan can tell you, DW is a franchise killer as well.

Palko was all set to become the next big thing and B Quinn was a great disappointment.

As far as the restraining order on Wanny, Pitt gave him an extension (I started a thread on this) as the powers be thought he had the program moving in the right direction. Pitt made to the Fiesta Bowl... hired Vanilla Dave... got smoked by the Univ of Utah and struggled to get to 6-6 last yr.
