Some of you may know that I play bass in a very obscure band....I also am in charge of booking the shows.....well, I answered an ad for bands wanted for a benefit concert for the homeless in Orlando and low and behold, they wanted us....so we agreed to play....heres where it got crazy....1st, when we signed on, we didnt know who else was playing, and it turns out, several of the other bands are signed to major labels and are on national tours....we are nowhere near this level, we have maybe 5 fans total that show up consistently at our shows....2nd, all the bands are being given 20-30 minutes to play, but they have selected us to headline the after party, which means 90 minutes for the big wigs....that would be a lot of pressure by itself, but tickets to the afterparty are $1200 a piece....at that price, none of our fans can come....im freaking out....any advice for a guy thats in waaaaaaaaay over his head at this point?
damn... you know what.. this is your shot dude!.. this can be the beginning of it all. play the shit out of this show! but you know what if it blows im in need of a bassist

The most important thing is not to get freaked out by it. Now that is easier said than done because you can be perfectly calm and relaxed until you get there that night and see where you're performing. Treat it like a big sporting event where you have to believe in your game plan and what you've practiced. Welcome to your personal Super Bowl Beef.
Good luck, Beef! Do whatever it takes not to be all nervous. Drink before if it helps. John Bonham from Led Zeppelin used to down a whole bottle of whiskey in between songs.
I wont be getting drunk because I dont drink....i wont be getting stoned, because I dont take drugs....I may get laid, but if I do it will be after when I get home....Im flipping out....Ive played a lot of shows but nothing like this one....I know we were in way over our heads, and now the #1 radio station for our type of music just signed on as a sponsor and will be there as well....to quote Tom Hanks, "Its very important you dont stink today!"

Any chance you could get some singers/guitar players from the other well known bands to come out for a song or two to jam? It would be an easy way to get some cheap pops and maybe do a little sucking up to bands w/ labels.
They kept moving the venue and we ended up in an art gallery....lots of big wigs from local businesses were there and it was fancy as I expected....we played a flawless show, but the acoustics were so poor, i dont think anyone could understand the lyrics....I cant be sure, but another band played before us, and i couldnt understand anything their singer said until I went backstage to get ready and from back there, I could make it all out....all in all, it wasnt earth shattering, but we did the best we could do in that room....
