I'm glad that I know most Baptist folks are good people and not wackos like the freaks of Westboro Baptist Church. Still, I found this video to be incredibly disturbing. How self-righteous can one person be? I can't imagine the gall it must take to talk about another human being like this.

I dont even know where to begin....men like this man do so much damage to the Christian cause....I guess I will start with this: God hates no man....God loves all who walk the earth.....God hates sin....Nothing a man does will condemn him to hell as long as he has a breath to repent with....wielding the bible like a weapon drives people away from God and God definetly hates that....

I never heard of this guy... until you posted this and I watched five seconds of his video.

    I guess he wins.

    What a LOSER.

Russert was visibly a devout catholic and proud of being one.

In fact, he had just come back from Italy where he visited the Vatican (not as a reporter) and one of the Bishops there pulled strings so the Russerts could go see the Sistine Chapel.

    Not a Baptist, tho.

I tend to assume that there's a creepy Fred Phelps response to every notable world event. And I try my best to avoid them all.

Most of those extremely religious people are so brainwashed that they would kill others 'for God.'

Like those people who bomb abortion clinics because they don't support it. . They don't realize they are killing everyone in there like the innocent nurses and babies that they were so against killing in the first place.

Its pretty pathetic. Whatever happened to just being a good person? Now you have to throw religion into everything.

Their religion is gaining some publicity. They had a documentary on some channel. Their religion is comprised of about 50 members and they are all related. Enough said?

Bombing abortion clinics may have nothing to do with God or religion. If you believe it's murder, then you might feel morally (not religiously) compelled to stop it.

I don't condone it in the least, but it's understandable. It's nothing like this Fred Phelps lunatic.

I've read multiple news stories where people have done that and then blamed religion. That could have just been there ticket out, but its a lame excuse none the less.

But I agree, is he getting any sort of punishment for his actions? I mean c'mon freedom of speech can only go so far. Its people like him that can give religion a bad rep.

I've encountered these people before. I was coming out of Nationals Stadium after the Papal Mass two months ago and they had sings like "Fags go to hell" and "God hates the Pope."

Wonder if these guys know Tim Russert met the Pope two monts ago too. I don't think he's in hell.

WBC hates anyone that's not one of them, which comes out to 99.99999999 percent of the rest of the world.

^ If they think God hates the Pope, then Russert meeting him probably wouldn't go over too well with them.

Actually, to those who think you haven't heard of this guy, you probably have but haven't made the connection yet. Phelp's church has made the news for thanking God for the deaths of U.S. soldiers and then picketing their funerals. Some folks have sued and, hopefully, some of our crap-for-brains politicians will pass a law or two to help prevent the picketing of funerals in the future.

In this case, I don't think the real problem is religion. Most Christians that I know, Baptist or Catholic, would find this type of speech disgusting. The real problem here is Fred Phelps' ego. The guy is a hate-monger who gets his rocks off with tough talk. Phelps is just using religion as a media for his message. How does he find followers? That's easy. The last I heard, there were only a couple of families that made up this church. Incest has a way of really dumbing down a congregation.

There's millions of pro-lifers who are atheists.

I make a big distinction here. If you think abortion is murder, and you see 500,000 to 1.5M of them going on yearly, you would consider it a genocide of holocaust proportions. Again, this is not my belief, but I have no problem understanding where they might be coming from.

Regardless, if they're religious, their religion is the basis for their morality, which doesn't change things from being a genocide in their eyes.

Here is an article on the history of Westboro Baptist Church. According to the article, they have no affiliation with any mainstream Baptist organizations. Basically, this is a cult that is using and abusing the Baptist name.

    Here's the article.

Disgusting, but not surprising coming from the WBC. These are the same people that protest the death of soldiers, thank god for 9/11, etc...

You can't really reason with these people, so I don't take anything they have to say to heart. Here's a video of them getting rick rolled

Thats something I'll never see eye to eye with you on.

I don't think abortion is murder because we're talking about an undeveloped embryo. Genocide is what is going on in Africa or the holocaust - murder of actual people.

People have different opinions with religion and politics (very sensative subjects and I understand) but there is really no comparision or justification of an undeveloped 8 week embryo to a 30 year old making a decent living and being murdered because they are Jewish.

But I see your point, I'll just never agree to it. I'm 100% pro-choice and much like the people against abortion, no one will ever change my mind.

I'm pro choice, too, and nobody could change my mind about it either.

I just think it's a big leap to associating the motives of the abortion clinic bombers to the views of this nutzo extremist cult leader.

If you cut out all of the middle bullshit, and just show me the introduction and conclusion of the video, I would think this video would be some kind of sick humor or something. If I hadn't read the comments below the video, I would have thought this would be some kind of sick joke because of its opening, but obviously it isn't. If these people really want to be taken seriously, I suggest them fix their intro and conclusion, and maybe change the name of their websites...

I hope Russert's family doesn't see this video. Could they sue Fred Phelps?

There's no basis to sue Phelps.

Bring back Janet Reno and she could burn his compound to the ground, tho.
