    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 25 2008, 09:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Kobe made the playoffs with Kwame Brown as starter (couldn't even get minutes in Memphis), Smush Parker as starting point guard (soon to be out the league), Lamar Odom as second option (he's even inconsistent as third option), Luke Walton (he sucks), Brian Cook as sixth man (laughable), Sasha Vujacic before he could shoot, and Devean George playing a major role (super scrub). The fact that Kobe even got to the playoffs with that roster in the west, and actually gave the Suns a run for their money is impressive enough

    I'm not going to debate Kobe vs Pierce though. I'm sure you guys all know my stance, and it's just going to be a pointless argument that will never get anywhere

    With that being said, I have read that the quote is not even accurate. It's from a Spanish newspaper or something and the translation isn't even correct. Pierce is a great player though. Like I said before, he used to be one of my favorite ex-Lakers before this season (as well as KG surprise surprise). He played great in the postseason, and I'm not going to take anything away from him. He's truly a phenomenal player</div>

    Well I am not sure if Pierce said these words, but the Spanish quote I read in the original article translates into the English quote you saw in the first post.

    PP is a GREAT basketball played.
    He just signed his life away to Mamba.
    It's one thing to believe you are the best and say it to the media, but to CALL OUT the best like he did? That's just disrespectful right there.

    Pierce made it to the Conference Finals with Antoine Walker, Tony Battie, Eric Williams, Kenny Anderson, Rodney Rodgers and Tony Delk. He made it into the 2nd round with Walker, Delk, Battie, Williams, JR Bremer and Walter McCarty. And into the playoffs again with Ricky Davis, Jiri Welsch, Mark Blount, Chucky Atkins, Chris Mihm and Marcus Banks. And once more with an elderly Gary Payton, 20 games of Antoine, Ricky Davis and Raef LaFrentz.Those rosters are all similar or worse than the rosters Kobe has had post-Shaq. It wasn't until Pierce was the only veteran on the Celtics roster that he started missing the playoffs. And if you think Kobe would have improved any of those teams enough to make the playoffs, then you're crazy.

    [devil's advocate]But the East was far less competitive. I do remember one year when the Celtics made the playoffs with 36 wins.[/devil's advocate]
    </div>

    Precisely. They wouldn't even make the playoffs in the West with those rosters.
    </div>

    Exactly. The East was weak back then, and if I'm correct, Boston lost to the Nets in the conference finals that year and the Nets got swept by the Lakers.

    The statement was a joke anyways.

    Paul Pierce had Al Jefferson and Delonte West alongside him and they still sucked LOL

    The first season Al Jefferson was good, Pierce was out for half the season. And if you think Delonte West is good enough to be a difference maker for an NBA basketball team, then your perception of him is way off.

    No offense or anything, but the eastern conference can't be compared to the western conference (at least back then).

    And unless my memory is wrong, the Atlantic Division was once referred to was the Titanic Division because it used to be the weakest division in the entire league

    Also, Walker, although he sucks now, wasn't a scrub back then. He's a three time allstar

    You guys are pathetically defensive. I already said Kobe > Pierce. I'm just trying to defend Pierce's career to the people who are trying to make him sound like a scrub. He made the playoffs in the, yes, weaker East with teams teams full of guys that were out of the league 2-3 years later.

    Big talk from a guy who hides behind the huge shorts of KG. Pierce is a thug. The ring his wearing is practically bought by Danny Ainge via KG and Allen.

    You know, it really is pathetic how much time and effort some people put into defending Kobe Bryant. Pierce most likely said this in jest, and you have people in here trying to make him look like NBDL material and people attacking his character with little to nothing to back it up. And why? Because Pierce claimed he was a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant. Please try to step out of your body for a minute and watch what it is you're doing. It is unhealthy to be that infatuated with your favorite basketball star.

    Actually, Kobe is not my favorite player. I'm just calling a spade, a spade. Kobe is the best right now.

    I think it would be going too far to say he hides behind KG's shorts. Sure Pierce wouldn't have been able to win the chip without them, but if you recall Pierce did win some games and played great as well.

    And when is considered a bad thing to build a winning team? Sure they got the big three, but at the risk of a weaker bench...ie; not alot of money throughout the rest of the roster. Boston is like everyother team and has a salary cap, along with a luxury tax. I'm a small market fan being from Minnesota, but I don't hate on teams that want to build a winner. It's the reality of sports, if your ownership is cheap, it's hard to compete

    Kobe is much better than Pierce. You can say that without trying to tear down Pierce in the process. The fact that you went the extra mile to do so made me assume you were a little over the top defending Kobe. Who is your favorite player?

    If PP is better than Kobe, and Kobe is said to be the best in the world, does that mean PP is the greatest basketball specimen in the whole entirety of the universe?
