I think Will Ferrell has makes a lot of good movies actually.....Old School, Night at the Roxbury, Anchorman, etc. Then there are those like Elf that make me with I could have those 90 minutes of my life back.
I actually liked elf as a kids type movie because there wasn't any potty humor or anything in it. You could watch that with a 10 year old.
Well, there's this thing called money. Some say it makes the world go around. Businesses and upper crust movie executives love it. His movies don't take very much of this to make and bring back a lot of this. For movie production companies they'll gladly sign on to some random Will Ferrell project because they know its only gonna cost a few million to make and it'll probably break even in the first 6 hours that its released in theaters. Usually with more expensive movies they hope to come close to breaking even with the sales at the box office and then they really earn the profit with the DVD sales. With comedy movies though, they're so cheap to make that movie companies will sign any half-way recognizable comedian to do a movie knowing its got a good shot to break even. With Will Ferrell its a lock to be what, top 3 at the box office? It nets a great profit for movie companies and more importantly its like free money for them- they know people are going to see it whether its a steaming POS or a classic. Its guaranteed to bring in profit. Thats why you see all these crappy, washed up comedians still making movies when they haven't been funny for over a decade. Movie companies don't give a sh*t if its funny or not, it doesn't take much to bring back a profit with those movies. But Will Ferrell hasn't completely lost it. Step Brothers was funny so that gives me hope after Blades of Glory, Talladega, and Semi-Pro. I'd like him to go back into a supporting roles for a while (like Wedding Crashers, Jay and Silent bob Strike Back, and Old School). Hes too overexposed, but again, thats because movie companies want to milk this guy for every cent they can get. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Celtic Fan @ Aug 14 2008, 01:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I actually liked elf as a kids type movie because there wasn't any potty humor or anything in it. I don't think I've seen either one the whole way through (just seen pieces on TV), not very funny but not terrible considering its supposed to be a comedy for the whole family.
I think comedians have a limited shelf life like Milk. Comedians become repetative and old rather quickly (some more than others) so execs wanna bang out as many movies as they can to strike while they're still considered funny. That's also the reason why you see Robin Williams, Jim Carrey doing serious films, cause they know they're not going to be big stars on comedies alone. Funny thing about family movies.. Dwayne Johson (aka The Rock) has 3 or 4 Family movies in production. His movie 'The Game Plan' made more money than any action film he made... which makes me weep, there really are no big action movie stars nowadays.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (GrandKenyon6 @ Aug 14 2008, 01:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He is the worst comedian of all time.</div> Well he clearly isn't the worst comedian of all time. He is in 4 good films (Old School, Zoolander, Night at the Roxbury, and Anchorman) Oh and I forgot about his character in Austin Powers was pretty funny (Mustafa). It's just he is greedy and is willing to do mediocre movies that will make a decent amount of money just off his name. (Bewitched (the worst of all), Kicking and Screaming, Elf, Taladaga, and Semi-Pro - I haven't seen Step Brothers yet so I don't know) Bale looks thin to be Batman:
He's just milking the money cow. Once he saw Anchorman was a huge hit, he just decided to make knock offs based upon the same concept as Anchorman, but he takes away more of the plot with each rip off. it's the same reason people started to dislike Sandler. Most of his films are the same thing but just in different situations. Honestly, I thought Ferrel's best movies imo were Anchorman(the first and best of his man child comedies) and Old School(where he played a fantastic supporting character).
Pretty much agree with your post but don't forget his role in Wedding Crashers too and IMO his best supporting role, also probably his most forgotten, is as the Wild Life Marshall in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Bale is insanely dedicated to getting his body into shape for movies. He gained 100 lbs of muscle when he went from being the main character in the machinist (where he was gauntly thin) to Batman Begins. I think while filming Batman hes probably carrying an extra 20+ lbs of muscle than during the rest of his life.
