Good to know we're both on the same page with Sabbath. Cause quite frankly, everything after Ozzy is total trash. I hate Dio though...so that probably doesn't help my cause. The new Metallica album is definitely worth checking out too. If you like Justice, I think you'll love it. That's the album I think it mostly compares to. It does have a little bit of Load/ReLoad style to some of their songs, but it's basically all old school Metallica sound. As for Trivium, I would definitely do yourself a favor and check more of their stuff out. Ascendancy is an amazing album, The Crusade was damn good (even if it sounded Metallica-ish), Shogun sounds like their best effort yet, and their debut, Ember to Inferno, isn't too bad either. Also keep in mind with Trivum, their band members are all super young (Heafy, the vocalist/guitarist, is a whopping 22), so they're going to get better and better as the years go by.
Travis Smith is only 26 (and I think the oldest member) too, and he's one of the top three metal drummers around today.
I would have to agree. The only people I think I would put over him is Joey Jordison (Slipknot) and The Rev (A7X).
So if you were to recommend some Trivium songs to start me off with what would you recommend? Couple from past albums and at least one off the new album.
God Im listening to some of the songs off the new album. Too much of a Dragonforce feel for me on some of those riffs, dont dig the "emo" parts, singer totally sounds like James at some parts ...Im trying man
Aside from 'We Are the Fire' I can only really recommend stuff from the new album. My personal favorites are 'Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven', 'Into The Mouth Of Hell We March', and 'Shogun' (Shogun is 12 minutes long but worth every second). Everyone seems to love 'Kiriuste Gomen' but I didn't like that one too much.
I can't think of anything off of Ember to recommend cause I haven't listened to it that much. Ascendancy Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr Ascendancy A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation Suffocating Sight The Crusade Entrance of the Conflagration Ignition Detonation Becoming the Dragon Shogun Shogun Into the Mouth of Hell We March Kirisute Gomen Down From the Sky And I don't know how you can't like Kiriuste Gomen. It's a great song, and I love how it starts off with acoustic at the beginning. But yea, these are my recommendations off their previous albums. I'd recommend starting with the Ascendancy stuff and working your way from there. As for Ember to Inferno, just check whatever out, like I said, I haven't listened to that album too much, so I don't have much of an opinion on it.
Crazy. Oh well, to each their own. Also, Jacoby, you should definitely check out the listed songs as well, you should definitely like them.
Just listened to three -- Strings of your Martyr -- 3/5 Ascendancy -- 4/5 A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation -- 4/5
So I think I'll add Insurrection to my list of songs to check out. I'm listening to it right now, and I'm really starting to like this tune A LOT.
So I'm pumped for tomorrow night. I'm going to see Trivium with All That Remains, 36 Crazyfists and The Human Abstract. Should be a hell of a show. I'm really hoping that Trivium closes the night with Shogun...really hoping.
Just got back from the show, freaking amazing. The Human Abstract was damn good. Their guitar players were ridiculous, and they're a band I might look in to at some point. 36 Crazyfists was awesome as well. However, Brock, their lead singer, fucked up the name of the city. He called us Cedar Falls initially. When he found out he was playing in Cedar Rapids, he was like "Alright guys, on three, everyone say, Brock you're a fucking douchebag." It was pretty funny. All That Remains was ok. I think I'd have enjoyed their set more if two things would have happened. First, the smoke on their set was annoying. They released a crap load of smoke at the very beginning of the set and it never seemed to go away, it just lingered, which was highly agitating. Secondly, and most importantly, their set was too long. They played nearly an hour and eventually grew boring, at least for me. Trivium however, was amazing. Hands down the best act of the night. It's kind of unfortunate that so many people left after ATR, cause they missed an incredible show. The only unfortunate thing was they only played for about an hour because ATR played so damn long before them. But, their set list was great. Off the top of my head, they played Kirisute Gomen, Into The Mouth of Hell We March, Down From the Sky, Insurrection, Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr, A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation, Like Light to Flies, Becoming the Dragon and Rain....for that matter, I think that was the whole set list. But yea, great set list, definitely could have been longer and was definitely missing some of my favs, but oh well. They were AMAZING and I can't wait for them to come back around.
I'm starting to like the 2nd track, Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis. He Who Spawned the Furies isn't too bad either. Too bad they didn't play Shogun at the show Moo. That's easily my favorite track of the album.
Trivium? You want to hear it. 'Shogun', 'Into The Mouth of Hell We March', 'Kirisute Gomen', 'Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven', 'Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis'... check those out.
