Cobourne returns as Alouettes set to face stingy Saskatchewan defence MONTREAL — Avon Cobourne can't wait to get back on the field to resume his breakthrough season with the Montreal Alouettes. The shifty tailback is to return to the lineup after missing three games with a sore ankle when the Alouettes play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a battle of 8-4 teams at Percival Molson Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. However, he won't go head-to-head with league rushing leader Wes Cates, who stayed back in Regina to nurse a lower leg injury. "It's still sore, but you've got to play through it," Cobourne said Saturday. "I've been off for four weeks, so it's definitely time for me to get back in there and get into the mix." Cobourne was injured late in a 30-25 win at home over the British Columbia Lions on Aug. 29. Mike Imoh filled in capably until he went down in last week's 40-4 win over Edmonton, when Dahrran Diedrick took over the job. But while both replacements did well running the ball, neither had quite the same impact catching it out of the backfield. Before his injury, Cobourne was close to a pace that could have seen him become the first player in CFL history to gain 1,000 yards in both rushing and receiving. He picks up the chase with 815 rushing yards, still third in the league, but his 487 receiving yards will make it very tough to reach the target with only six games left to play. "You all brought that up," said Cobourne. "I just wanted to win every game. "It wasn't my plan going into the season. If I would have got it, it would have been great, but if I don't, it's water under the bridge because I wasn't thinking about it anyway." Canadian Press
Grabbed a playoff spot so we just need to keep Cal healthy and we are set. Cobourne is extremely talented as well.
