I think it's pretty clear that the Giants will need a defensive coordinator after this season.

Crennel will almost certainly be fired.

Is there a chance that the Giants can somehow trump the Dolphins and Patriots and lure him to New Jersey? Coughlin did work on the same staff as Crennel for two years with the Giants.

Don't crush my dreams that Steve Spagnuolo will stick around for some random reason

    That's not happening.

If Romeo gets fired during the season, the Giants should hire him as a "special assistant" or soomething before he even cleans out his office.

That would be a pretty drastic change in defensive philosophy. I don't see why they would want him. They'd be better off sticking with what works for them now and perhaps promote a coach from within.

i know, there is pretty much no chance he'll be back, but I don't want to give up hope yet.

As far as Romeo...I wouldn't be upset with him as the replacement. The Pats were very successful when he was there as there defensive coordinator. I don't know how he'd feel about going back there though...might be kind of weird. Leaves to go on to bigger and better things, fails, and then goes back. Then again, he might want some kind of "reunion", who knows what his thought process is on that.

Not taking money into consideration, since who knows what some team may offer him, I would think the position would be appealing to him. The Giants have been very successful and have a solid core to build around/work with.

I am betting that Spags will be very selective in what team he considers for a HC position...no way he goes to a team with a bad owner (eg. no Raiders). He's making a lot of money as the DC of the Giants, and I bet he really thinks he needs more experience to be a head coach. After this year, he'll only have had 2 years of DC experience, and definitely hasn't been around-the-block enough to put together a very strong staff...

Sorry to say I believe Spags is gone. As for Romeo he is a very good DC. Maybe like Norv Turner he should stick to being a top coordinator. Some guys just don't workout as a HC. I do think the Giants are going to look within, before hiring someone from the outside. If they go outside Romeo is a very good choice.
