Per Sportscenter, the Yanks have offered AJ Burnett a 5 year deal. No terms of the contract were mentioned, just that it was a 5 year deal. I'd be ok with this. He'd be a great #3 or #4 option, as long as he can stay healthy.
this is gonna be worse then Pavano and almost as bad as Kevin Brown...I just dont like AJ he has never had a good season beside last
You know this for a fact, or are you saying that basically because you just don't like him? Pavano was out most of the 2001 season, and was very solid after that. No one expected him to keep getting injured, especially after his three full seasons 2002-2004. It just happened, and he didn't exactly seem to try too much to get healthy. Pettitte wasn't exactly 'great' last year, but everyone would say sign him most likely because he has been a Yankee most of his career. And Pettitte is 36 years old, I see a lot of people say don't go for A.J. because he is 'old'.
You don't give #4 guys 5 year deals. #4 and #5 guys are what you give to kids, or cheap late pickups. Bad... deal. What is wrong with Cashman? -Petey
I hope he goes to Atlanta for the Rays sake. I heard that Atlanta has now guranteed a 5th year so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
I think it's the pressure to win. Last year was the first time in what, 13 years that they missed the playoffs. The Steinbrenner's didn't like it, so now they're going to have him go out and outbid everyone to get players that could make them better.
If they are wildy going to throw around money... good thing, why not trade for Peavy... offer him crazy money, he'll come to NY... sign Texeria right now. Get Manny signed. Let the Lowe's go to Boston, let the Burnett's sneak way to Atlanta. If you are gonna spend, spend right... This soooo reminds me of when the Yankees signed damn Gary Sheffield over Vlad who would still be productive today. -Petey
Well, I think the reason they don't trade for Peavy is because they'd have to lose players in the process. I realize he's a huge upgrade over AJ Burnett, but they have to lose a couple people they may be relying on for the future, likely Kennedy or Hughes. The Yanks showed they weren't willing to do that last summer to get Santana, a much better pitcher than Peavy, so why would they do it this year? As for Tex and Manny...who knows...they might make them crazy huge offers yet. We don't know that they won't. I have a hunch they'll throw their names in their for Tex, if for anything else to make the BoSox overpay for him (assuming they are going for him, which they are from everything I've heard).
They lost their chance at Santana. And if they value CC at 161 million, shouldn't they think as highly as Peavy? And while trading these young players, you don't give up the picks it takes to sign Lowe or Burnett... -Petey
CC wasn't as adiment about it. Peavy straight up went to the FO and told them not to trade him to an AL team. The Yankees already made an offer, and he said he didn't want to be here.
The issue with Peavy is his NTC. He can veto whatever he wants. CC wanted to stay on the west coast, but when you get offered that much money, it's hard to say no to it.
The Yankees inquiried. I've never read an offer was made, and a request to talk directly to Peavy. http://www3.signonsandiego.com/weblogs/padres/2008/dec/10/yankees-more-attractive-peavy/?padres Here is a quote from Peavy's agent yesterday about Yankees. There is nothing there that says he has to be moved to the Cubs. -Petey
