His agent is already making noise about how Putz is not a setup man but one of the top closers in baseball. -Petey
I like Joe Smith, but Putz has some power in his pitches. The game I watched of him he hurt Carl Crawford (Check swing because of a really good slider) and Evan Longoria (hit him in the wrist), his control wasnt there last year but his speed was up in the 95 range. At least the Mets have the the 8th and 9th inning well guarded now they just have to worry about that 7th inning guy and the starters not name Johan Santana
I'm betting there will be problems too. Putz might not like it, but he's going to have to deal with being a set-up guy. If he can do that, the Mets could have one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball come the 8th and 9th innings.
This trade has sort of gone under the radar, but i think the Mets have been making the right moves. I'm not so sure how Putz will deal with being a set-up man, but i don't expect any drama.
Now you guys can have my saying "Time to Putz the Lights out" when he comes in He's alright but M's just drafted a closer in the 1st round last year and they got a good haul for a relief pitcher IMO.
I think it's the best 8/9 combo in baseball if Putz can return to his form of 2 seasons ago. So good where the 8 guy might be better than the closer. -Petey
