The New York Post's George A. King III reports that if the Yankees can't get Mark Teixeira, they're "right there on" Manny Ramirez.
"If they pass on Teixeira, the Yankees will try and bolster a sagging lineup with Ramirez, one of the greatest run producers in baseball history. And to clear some money, they might entertain offers for outfielder Xavier Nady, who made $3.35 million last year, is arbitration eligible and a free agent after the 2009 season."
The article mentions a 3 year deal despite Scott Boras seeking five.
King suggests Jermaine Dye is another option; however, Dye has the Yankees listed as one of six teams he would veto a trade to

They have the money to sign Teixeira, why not go after him? They'd be stupid not to.

If they can move Damon (who was productive), or Matsui (who wasn't), it's just another 12 million on the payroll to get Manny, assuming 50 million / 2

I'd be pretty pissed if we gave out Jose Tabata for a one year rental.

ESPN is reporting the price tag for Teix will be around 180mil...Do we have enough to throw that at him? Im still hoping we make a run at Oliver Perez or Milton Bradley

Yes. If the Yankees did that, they would still be under last year's salary figure.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Yanks get him. They're in complete overhaul mode right now, and this would make them even better.

As of right now, I still consider the Yankees the third best team in the division. If they get Teixeira, I'll reconsider.

hell im a yankees fan and i think they are the 3rd best team in the divison...This offseason has been ok CC was huge and help us alot and getting ride of Giambi,Abreu,Pudge did also but signing Burnett was a mistake and decide not to go after Sheets was also...I just hope we offer Teix a contract he cant refuse and take a look at some more SP maybe someone on the younger side like Oliver Perez

If the Yankees go after Manny, I wonder if they make him cut his hair. Not like 2" like Torre had him do, but like a full haircut like Damon when he came over.

as a yankees fan I want manny....yeah tex is younger, but manny protects A Rod, is money in October, and you KNOW he'll be motivated to prove his naysayers wrong and stick it to the sox everytime we play them.....

resign Andy and sign Manny and we get #27 next October......I guarantee it......

Ben Sheets was the guy they should have pursuing all along. Burnett's a dog when he's not in a contract year (not to mention his health questions), and while CC tore it up with the Brewers, he's had what, two good seasons in the majors, one on an arbitration drive, and the other on a contract drive. Him and Burnett together might not equal the production the Yankees got from Mussina last year, who is now gone. Sheets, while he has health questions of his own, is a very steady pitcher and would have came pretty damn cheap.

So, according to SportsCenter...someone outbid the Red Sox for Teix, and they're dropping out of the race? I wonder if it was the Yanks? Anyone hear any word on if they're pursuing him, or anyone else at the moment?

Hmmm.....well I just saw on Sportscenter, no more than 15 minutes ago, that the Red Sox are dropping out of the Teixeira...maybe I heard wrong.
